What tune in your playlist/radio are you listening to currently? I'm digging Danzig so far.

CornFlakes

The Black Keys - Brothers

Its a really good listen, garage bluesy sound with funky guitar effects.

Been listening to quite a bit of Seasick Steve after seeing a live version of one of his songs. Great back story too, including homelessness, befriending Kurt Cobain and playing music for 40 odd years before anyone took any notice

got a pretty fun playlist set up on jango, to which i've just added the dead weather. saw 'die by the drop' on tv last night, and was instantly mesmerised. otherwise mumford & sons, gerry rafferty, al stewart and a whole bunch of other non-bluesy stuff for a while. some people give up drinking for a month, i give up listening to the blues. ?

Some old faves are on hot rotation here at XFM.

Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
This is just fab. Drake was a true original - and really he still is. Love the arrangements on this and I love the sound of the record. They recorded Drake close up and you can hear the breath in his voice and the wood in the guitar. Wonder if they had the same issues with mastering in those days. Drake's guitar work, and indeed the compositions, are quite deceptive.

Mike Heron - Smiling Men With Bad Reputations
Joe Boyd said that of all the records he produced he had the most fun with this one. It's certainly fun to listen to. Amazingly electic, even by the standards that the Incredible String Band (Heron's day job at the time) had set. In one album Heron embraces hard rock, township jive (in England in 1971!!!!), traditional Indian music, folk rock.... it's all over the place and yet Heron and Boyd pull it off magnificently (with the help of some stellar turns by the guest players who include John Cale, Pete Townsend and Dudu Pukwana) and the album is satisfying as a whole. I kind of wish the re-issue was short of the bonus tracks. They don't fit in with the flow of the original album (Jimmy Page is the guest guitarist on one of the bonus tracks, but even so...).

Hammeron

Corrosion of Conformity - 'In the arms of God'

Seventhson

Megadeth-Tornado of souls

Yep, apt one word description.

I'm on a search for new music, not really finding anything I like.
- New John 5 sounds 'meh' so far, just the same as the previous one.
- New Maiden is 'ok', not as good as the previous one.

And so on. :'(

Ray

Grady - Good As Dead . Just got it last night and it is so grand.

Seventhson

Judas priest-heavy metal. ??? >☹ 8)

Heard 4 tracks, found it quite different, perhaps it will grow on me.
Still think 'Powerslave' and 'Matter of life and Death' are best.
Have you seen 'Flight 666'?

Hammeron

The new Soilwork, 'The panic broadcast' is off the clock.

Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill

One of my favourite albums for guitar playing. Guest player Elliot Randall turns in two great performances on "Reelin' In The Years" and "Kings". Then full-time Dan member "Skunk" Baxter also gets in a couple of good ones, and adds some marvellous steel guitar playing - notably on "Fire In The Hole".

Just saw Woodstock.
The artist that impressed me the most was Ritchie Havens, Brilliant.
Is he still going?

+1.

My favourite Dan solo is Larry Carlton's on Kid Charlemagne off The Royal Scam.

"Skunk" Baxter gets in some good ones on the early Dan albums. I love his playing on "My Old School". Larry's solo on KC is a stonker. He plays great rhythm guitar on the Aja album.

Seventhson

Metallica-for whom the bell tolls >☹

Ministry - Let's Go

Love Pain & Sorrow - David Gilmour & Snowy White... 8)
