What are you listening to right now...

What tune in your playlist/radio are you listening to currently? I'm digging Danzig so far.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss Raising Sand

It's taken me a while to get into this one, but I am enjoying it very much at present. Marc Ribot plays well and to great effect. I could have done with more instrumental work from Alison Krauss (she's a very fine fiddler) but when she does play the part has real authority.

The unlikely combination of voices works well IMO.

Plant seems to be on an Americana trip of late. His forthcoming album has Darrell Scott and Buddy Miller in the band. I have it on order.

Oh... great thing of me forgot with relevance to a recent discussion here. They do a fab rendition of a Townes van Zandt song - "Nothin'".

Listening to Mr Miles Davis doing his thing..... 8)

The soundtrack to Into the Wild - Eddie Vedder. Loved the movie and the soundtrack did it justice, so I jumped when I saw this in the musica sale-bin. Bit of a letdown though. In the less than ten minutes it takes me to drive home, I listened to the first 6 songs. All of them only about a minute long. There's 11 songs in total, so I'm hoping the other 5 have a bit more meat to them.

I bought this a while ago. Really wanted to like it, but it just doesn't seem to move me ☹

Listening to myself sing guide vocals on 6 tracks that I'm trying to lay down.

After all these years, nothing sounds quite as foreign to my ear as my own voice. Crazy hey? :?

LOL!

I'm kind of used to the rest of the world not being on my wavelength.

When we had pass-out parade in the army my mummy told me I was the only one in step.

listening to the person in the office next to mine who's in turn listening to Celine Dion totally destroy "you shook me all night long" and she has the nerve to sing along.

Animals As Leaders.

Tosin Abisi is a pretty impressive guitarist. 8-string too, woohoo. My only criticism would be the music seems circular, songs swirl around and around and eventually come to an end, no real sense of hook or progression.

Anyway. Anyone else here listen to them? Anyone??

Richard Thompson Dream Attic

His very latest. Just arrived today (the day after US release, so Amazon did a good job here).

An interesting concept. He has a bunch of new songs, but he doesn't take them into the studio. He makes demos, sends them to the guys in his band, then takes them on the road for about a dozen dates, records all the gigs and bingo! There's the new album.

I ordered the deluxe edition, with the acoustic demos on a seperate disc which I will get around to at some point.

First impressions are that there's been quite a lot of care taken on the recording, Thompson's guitar playing is still in very good shape, and the band stretches out more than they would do in the studio (fair enough, it was recorded in front of an audience) but are also very tight. It's an interesting trade off between studio sheen and live spark.

Nile - Those Whom The Gods Detest. Man the new album is awesome. I also got the new Cannibal Corpse just for the heck of it, never listened to them before. But every time I put it on I think 'why am I listening to this when I can listen to Nile some more?'

lindsmuse

My thoughts exactly!

Jericho

Jimi Hendrix - An Illustrated Experience
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Excellent stuff...

Groove Armada...

Seeing as I am currently without a (working) electric guitar, I figured I might as well listen to a band that has none as well ?

Squonk

Lee Ritenour

A jumble of stuff, the strange thing is that I get a lot more work done listening to Lee.

Going through some of the earlier 'Fourplay' stuff, I love his tone!

This afternoon I am going to go the metal route again, enjoyed the bit of In Flames I heard on Tuks FM, so will be exploring.

BMU

Scale The Summit - Carving Desert Canyons.

Progressive instrumental rock is back, yay! This is good but not excellent, the riffing is a bit samey, every song sounds similar. But not bad at all.

I bought a Groove Armada CD on impulse, I guess it must've been marked down. ? All black cover. The first few songs, when the woman sings, are really good. After that a guy sings and the music deteriorates.

infernox

Linkin Park and System of a down... Itunes is on a ROCK shuffle!

They're decent and a worthwhile addition IMO. Well recorded, Thompson's guitar playing (all on acoustic) is often quite detailed, and he fleshes out several songs with multi-tracked vocals, a second guitar part and/or extra instrumentation (accordion, mandolin, hurdy gurdy). This disc serves as an alternative version of the main feature, kind of like and "unplugged" version.

I think I have the same one. I also only listen to the first few songs. It is true that the songs seem to go worse as the album continues. ?

Animals As Leaders
Allan Holdsworth - Metal Fatigue
Planet X - Quantum
Brett Garsed & T.J Helmerich - Exempt
