I consider myself to be fairly open minded when it comes to bands experimenting and trying new things.
But I have to agree they have lost the plot and are trying to be overly "progressive".

So lets ignore them until they sort themselves out. I hear the new Enslaved is good....

On YT I'm seeing a 'Stefan Kienzle', praising the track. I think one sees your own comment at the top sometimes if you're logged in to YT..

Also regarding Opeth, I honestly prefer them these days ? The less metal they become the better in my mind, I think Damnation was probably my favourite of their albums ?

I've been burning this absolutely monumental album again, such an absolute milestone in music ?

Richard Thompson Acoustic Classics

Ok... I confess. I got it bad.This is my 58th Thompson title. I keep a spreadsheet.

But lots of other folks have it bad. Thompson cooked this one up at home to sell at gigs. Says he was unhappy with the few predominantly acoustic discs (thanks a LOT! After we all bought them) and wants something "representative" to sell at solo shows (at which, it seems, he is suddenly getting new fans). So he got this recorded and started selling it at gigs and the word gets out and then Facebook and everything goes ballistic because how can he forget his loyal fans in [fill in some place]? So he takes it like a man and gets the thing properly released and puts it on iTunes too. And it hit the charts in the UK so it looks like a nice little earner.

Anyhoo... no new songs. Solo re-recordings of old songs, including several from the Richard and Linda days. As you might expect songs like "Beeswing" and "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" don't gain a whole lot as they were always acoustic songs done without a band. More interesting by far is "Shoot Out The Lights" on which he substitutes an eeriness for the thump of the band.

Anyway, completists have it bad and we can't be trusted to be objective. We buy 'em because that's what we do. If it helps I'm currently 6 short of a full hand - mostly soundtrack stuff that never got released here and is out of print everywhere.

And the Thompson Family album is due in a few months time....

? ... it's the same with me and Metallica, love them to death, but the last effort leaves much to be desired.. I do however think it's cool that they try "new" stuff. I mean, the difference between this track and say, Baying of the hounds, is night and day.

old 1941 live recording of Charlie Christian and dizzy Gillespie at Milton"s playhouse , interestingly his name is misspelt Charley on the album itself ....

a must listen for any jazz guitarists....

and what makes it even more interesting is that he is the "father" of solo guitar so this incredible style has not had the benefit of learning from others ...he learnt from pedal steel players and brass players ..and it's his work that turned the guitar into a solo instrument

Frank Zappa and the Mothers - Roxy and Elsewhere

IMO this band from the early 70s was the first great Zappa band. They're tight and skilled and pull off some tricky pieces on this live set. The boss is in good form on guitar.
