Darrell Scott and Tim O'Brien - We're Usually A Lot Better Than This.
Two of the hottest talents in "newgrass" have their kids at the same school and so they decided to do a fund raising concert. Just the two of them. I'd known that Scott was a tremendous musician, and that O'Brien is a songwriter of note, but O'Brien is revealed here to be up there with Scott as a player. Mostly it's Scott on guitar and O'Brien on mandolin and they kick some serious butt. They overplay at times, and things get maudlin occasionally, but there's a terrific energy to this set and the vocals and playing are consistently excellent.
+1!! Darrel Scott rates as one of the best performer/songwriters around and is certainly my favourite acoustic player at the moment. Listen to "And the river is me" from The Invisible Man album. I love his Crooked road album as well.
And that "Brother wind" track from one of the Transatlantic sessions productions (he actually plays mando with Tim O'Brien playing a vintage J-50 and Jerry Douglas on slide)
O, I'm listening to and enjoying Eddie Vedder's Society @ the moment
