I only have Structural Damage. How does this compare?
You would ask me that:
Structural Damage is one of the few of his albums I missed, so I don't know it. But
Out Standing is definitely one of his best (and I have 8 solo and 8 Dregs albums). On a par with
Southern Steel or
The Introduction very nearly an
Unsung Heroes.
More rocking than some of his recent albums (one gentle clean track, one classic, one raging country picking - the rest are all rock), more interplay with the bass (as befits a trio). His tones do tend to be "wiry" rather than ballsy ...that's Morse - he's a rocker with prog/country/classic leanings, not a NuMetal downtuner. ?
Who attended his workshop in Newtown JHB when Deep Purple toured here? When was it... '94 maybe? Man what an awesome, awesome player and nice guy.
I helped set up the Cape Town workshop and got to meet him - shy, unassuming and a real nice guy. I loved the Purple show (and Uriah Heep who opened for them - that's my generation of music). Amazing how Morse pulled off the Blackmore stuff like Black Knight without a trem, and even covered the vocal parts that Gillan can't get anymore with guitar parts. Actually, it strikes me I should get some of the newer Purple stuff with him - Can't be any worse than the Kansas album ?
