From an e-mail I received a few minutes ago
"I know a place to get dark-chocolate/bacon cheesecake."

I've never done anything harder than alcohol, but one of my best friends was a serious dopehead while he was still in school, doing the whole surfer thing. He got high one day and started getting a bad craving for baked beans mixed with raspberry cooldrink syrup (aka "Jannie Verjaar").

I've eaten mopani worms in a team building "survivor challenge"
They were dried and were dipped in chocolate but the gross thing was that there were other live worms munching the dead ones.

Seeing as this just turned out to be a 'weirdest food you've eaten' thread...
Sliced biltong, dipped in chocolate.
Popcorn with melted chocolate.
and in Bangkok they have a desert there, deep fried bananas in a very strange nutty batter - I didn't dare ask what the batter was. I passed on the deep fried 'roaches.
Carmen
Haven't ever heard of a cheesecake like that before... ???

My outlaws had a farm up at Moeketsi. We used to eat plenty worms with the plaaslike bevolking (locals). Also just before and after it rains, you get flying ant bodies and toast them on a dustbin lid.

My mate spreads peanut butter and syrup on a slice of bread, then lays it in bowl filled with milk and eats the stuff with a spoon.. Yummy ???

My dad taught me hoe they used to eat their bread in hostel... It's called a "GG" pie or "Government pie".
You take 2 slices of white bread and put some syrup and peanut butter on it, nice and thick. Then you place it in a bowl and throw your cup of coffee over it. Eat with a spoon. Delicious! ?

Hot oats porridge with marmite or bovril. In the bush we used to take the dog biscuits from the ratpacks then empty the condensed milk sachet on it and put some hot water. As good as any.

I ate a variety of things in Korea I'd never expect to eat again: raw shark, raw water snails (some of them blue and which turned the water in the cup (you dip for them with a toothpick) blue too), raw squid, raw octopus, raw fish (though, even the cooked fish was a challenge - I watched while the locals picked out the brains and eyes as delicacies), tendon (at an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Seoul), silkworm pupae, noodles made partly with bone meal...
Of course, nothing on that list comes close to what you'll find at the Checkers butchery section...
Ray
You can get raw shark in Pretoria.

It's not something I'd actively seek out, but that's good to know. ???
Does it come from Hartbeespoort Dam, perhaps?
