So, What's the biggest / smoothest / most devious / outlandish excuse you've used to justify the new guitar or gear you just bougt or are about to buy? Especially if you've been "bust" after doing it in secret?

@Aubs1: We are humbled in the presence of a master...by far the best approach I think! No direct confrontation, no debating or trying to convince the other one. Smooth, painless and no one is hurt. Brilliant!

@Keira: Could work, but I can also imagine the downside of being married to another guitarist: "Where's my capo?" "What do you mean your capo, I bought it" "Yes but I paid for it, and in case you've forgotten, who bought you the Fender?" "My skill on that Fender has long since paid for your new amp"....and so on!

Can't fool the partner if he/she is also a guitarist!

I married a keyboardist - no gear conflicts there. She GASes for camera stuff like Norio's wife and also computer gear. I like to really justify purchases with myself before buying them, so she knows I won't just buy because I can or get something we can't afford. On the other hand, me buying something means she can get herself a lens or something without guilt.

Net result is that she's usually trying to talk me into buying guitars and amps while I'm trying to talk myself out of it. Life is good.

@Bob - that's always the best way to do it. Not everyone has the luxury though. I know guys that have partners who will spend tens of thousands on household items but begrudge the purchase of a new set of strings (seriously!), let alone a guitar or amp.

Quite a couple of guitarists whose wives are into photography (camera equipment). I am at a slight disadvantage however. My wife has earned quite a lot of money using her equipment...I have earned zero using mine ☹ ...which leaves me with very little justification when it comes to buying more :'(

Hey Riaan, when you're ready to get that new Porsche Turbo the missus said no to, give me a call, have a plan to get it and make the missus pay for half of it!!!!!Hahahahaha!!
