What's the biggest / smoothest / most devious / outlandish excuse you've used to justify the new guitar or gear you just bougt or are about to buy?
Especially if you've been "bust" after doing it in secret?

My 2 favorite are:
I'm down sizing. I bought this Guitar/Amp/Pedal to replace my other Amp/Guitar/Pedal which I am going to sell at a profit. (of course you never really sell the other Guitar/Amp/Pedal because the market value has suddenly dropped?)
With this Guitar/Amp/Pedal my playing will improve so dramatically that I will be able to earn the money back in a month or two ,(which after the pigs have flown by, if you do earn the extra money from music, you spend it on more GAS and claim "well I earned the money through music so I am entitled to spend it on more equipment")

I suspect that gholf may prove to be cheaper in the end....

Good one this! But I suspect that you may be better off with the guitar fetish than the golf. Golf become quite expensive once you start off. R1800-R2000 a year in membership, +/-R250 a round of golf and a single driver can cost you around R5000. We won't even start talking about the price of golf balls! Over R100 each!
There are worse hobbies than music - motor racing for one. Drugs another...
But I was bust when I bought the Hondo. My room mate saw it and asked about it - I had to tell him I was flipping it as I still owed him money for the rent. "You see, once I sell it I can pay the rent and I'll have some extra for myself." Still haven't sold it... ?

just a thought but surely the THE SOLUTION IS MARRY/HAVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER MUSICIANS...... never be an argument over gear in your household ever again heheheheh

I've used these a lot. Funny thing is I'm actually trying to convince MYSELF that "this is the last thing I need" - but I'm always wrong ?
I'm allowed to buy anything for myself, as long as I match it with something for T. Usually a lens or a memory card or battery grip or something or camera. Luckily, the last time it cost me R10k so I still have some "points" in my favour ? Now I just need to find the money to buy new gear with ?

Get a mate who has an identical guitar to the one you're buying, to bring it over for you to "check it out"......
Get the wife/girlfriend, whoever to come look at "Joe's fantastic NEW guitar", play it, and tell her/and Joe it does'nt sound "quite right".....
So he leaves, with his new axe.
2 days later, you come home with YOUR NEW AXE, fiddle a bit, then call her and tell her you spent some time "working on Joe's guitar"..
Geez, it's beginning to sound better.... this goes on for about a week.....
Joe never bother's to ever come fetch his guitar.........she does'nt bother about checking on it day after day....after all....it's Joe's piece of crap!!! ?
