It had to happen...I finally got a chance to compare my Godin with my friend's Epiphone Les Paul. I started off by restringing both guitars (the Les Paul definitely needed new strings) and a minor setup for each (action, intonation) with identical D'Addario 9's. Then I played both through Guitar Rig - all the patches that are set up for humbuckers, and I played each through identical patches at the same volume settings. Only difference is that the Les Paul can obviously play the two humbuckers simultaneously, whereas the Godin has a H-S-H configuration and 5 way switching, so only SC and HB together instead of two HB's.

The Les Paul blew my Godin away, even when compared on single bridge humbuckers only... ☹...it simply has that "thump in the chest" sound to it, and the Godin just does not pack the same punch. I was disappointed to say the least, as I always thought that my Godin is much better than an Epiphone Les Paul. Not that the Godin sounds bad, but the Les Paul...it's just so much more rock 'n roll!

It may be that the presets are more suited to a Les Paul and that it needs some tweaking to suit the Godin?

I want this Les Paul....badly....will speak to my friend, he's more of a Strat and Tele player anyway.

I find that every single guitar needs patches tweaked to suit and I set up a bank specifically for each guitar. GR and other software (some modelling hardware too) seems a lot less tolerant than a real amp in that regard.
I got my Gold top a short while ago and still cant get over the incredible tone. Hope your friend let's you buy it, cause I struggled a bit to find one.
