Hey guys, wow it's been a looooooooong while. Life, work, meh.... I miss making full length songs.

Anyways have been using my laptop for a long time 99% of the time (RI's and Effects through Reaper) and don't use my amp and handful of pedals.
Problem with laptop is it is very unreliable when moving outside of my office and plugging it into a PA system with DI. I've had it bomb out or do funny stuff during a live session. But I am happy with digital RI's and ampless setup.

Anyways, I've narrowed it down to these two pedals to use outside of my office. My budget was originally R10 000, then I will look at the GX-10.

Would love to hear your input? Or alternative AMP+CAB IR pedal + FX for reverb/delay/shimmer/slight distortion/boost setup within the budget.

I like this type of sound with a bit of subtle shimmer:

Originally I wanted to try the Line6 pod express, but no idea where to source it reliably.

I did try this myself a long while back - found the same, it just wasn't consistent. Super versatile, but when it didn't work, it was a nightmare compared to any multi-fx/pedal board I've used.

Generally I've found Boss to be a little sterile but super reliable and POD to be more tone friendly but a less reliable (not quite the same build quality as Boss/Roland).

I've seen some praise for the NUX MG-400 and the Mooer GE-200, loads of love for the POD Helix range (HX stomp is within budget?) - there's too many purchase options and no try before you buy options 😆

Coming from left field - I have really enjoyed the plethora of 'modelling' amps that are out there - Yamaha THR, Boss Katana, Postive Grid and more are making some really sweet things. The THR & Katana I've used really impressed me both - THR for a clean/rock with great reverbs and delays and the Katana had good amp sims and versaility (and somehow less sterile than the Boss pedal boards I've used - YMMV).

Boss kit just works. As V8 points out it’s a bit vanilla but for 99.99 percent of folks it’s more than good enough.

Trying the Boss GX-10 - Don't know what I'm doing but not bad for first try
