Ibanez super 58 pickups

Hey folks. Been a while ;-)

I'm in the market for some proper humbuckers.

I've been toying with the idea of installing a mix between a Humbucker and a P90 or something similar but the darn pickup prices are ridiculous!

(On that note - anyone know thundercloud music store? Reliable?)

And then I found this vid ( and they sound amazing!

But utube can be sneaky, so my question, does anybody have these pups installed, or experience with them?

From what I hear, yes they're legit - though the website might not always accurately reflect actual stock. AFAIK there's a actual storefront in Fish Hoek, Cape Town.

A new friend, whom i've only met on Whatsapp, just offered me a Epiphone Bridge Pick Up - BHC Humbucker for a whole zero rand. 😀
So, i'll be testing that as well, but i'm very keen on these Ibanez pups.

Yes, super 58s are nice pickups. Have a set in my Artist.

So I finally met up with said new friend and he gifted me not one but 2 humbuckers. 😄

One is an Epiphone 'R Bridge PICK UPS BHC'

and the other is a D'marzio but no idea if it's a neck or bridge pickup. There is a handwritten sticker that says '190' and an 'F' stamp and US patent nr. I have no further info on this one.

Anybody know anything about em?

Also, would it be 'wrong' to put a bridge pickup in the neck position? 😀

Like @GTP mentioned, no problem to interchange them. If the string spacing is close enough, it'll work just fine.

Many, many moons ago I had a stash of Tonerider generators (16k bridge, 9k neck) but the majority of them were neck position (9k) and I put them into the bridge on a variety of guitar's - made for a great rock pup. Personally, I preferred them, found it more versatile vs the high gain (16k) bridge generator.

If you look on DiMarzio's site, and compare the DC resistance, you would get a close idea. It might be the "Air Classic", a "Vintage" style PAF copy, DP190F? (Air Norton is 193)
From your photo, I see the slugs are thinner at the bottom, which does suggest the "Air" version - They thinned down the slugs at the bottom to accommodate rings to space them from the magnet.
As mentioned, "F" probably indicates "F Spaced", or "Trembucker"" in Duncan Speak, accommodating wider string spacing for Floyd style bridges.
The Air Classic should be a very nice pickup, open, clear, bright...

Awesome. 190 might be for the dp190 which would make it the classic air norton. F stamp might just mean it is an f space pickup, meaning the lugs are slightly wider spaced for floyd style bridges. Ie.. so the strings run over the lugs.

No harm at all in using the pup in either bridge or neck position. Imho they are fully interchangeable. I normally consider the output of the pups when installing. Ie.. bridge would be a bot hotter than the neck pup for me.

Back when I did the mod I only had bucks for cheap blackbeard pups, so really eager to put them in.
