Great news! You get to vote twice today, Once for the best political spinner and 2ndly for the best guitar finger picking each category A and B. The correct answer is "No, of course not - it's your wrinkles that do that!". It hurts the first time you do this, but they rarely ask you again, so the pain is less in the long run. Speaking of running, standing close to the doorway to facilitate running away at a high rate of knots is advisable - she'll catch you anyway, but she won't be able to hit you as hard if she's gasping for breath.

What software do you guys use to open .ogg files?

Also Winamp, but with the right codec almost anything will play them.

Great to listen to all your entries. I must say, I would have loved to pull out my old tremelo, but alas, e-mail is still down. Alan, lovely furious finger pickin'. Everybody did quite well composition -wise, but I think generaly people were tempted to rely on left hand tecnique more than the right hand.

Thanks Squonk, I am very pleased with the acoustic's sound. It really does sound great over a PA aswell. Very happy with it.

Damn Squonk! You jinxed me! ?

I had two options to go for. I initially wanted to do a kind of a hoedown, with a central theme and cutting to different styles of fingerpicked stuff between each repetition, but couldn't get it to work in only a minute. I also had a slower, more melodic one, but my wife liked the fast flashy one and thought it would impress more than the other, so I went with that. You'd think I'd know by now I'm not a flashy player. It was my first recording using the mic preamps build into my relatively new ESI ESP1010 interface and the damn things were clipping even though all the meters were well in the green. Unfortunately I didn't have time to redo, so I just had to go with it.

@ CDee - sorry, somehow missed the request and I am sorely pressed at the mo. Just quickly then: Wonderful! Your tone keeps on getting better and better with each competition and it's sounding pretty good now. Also not a flashy piece, but pretty. My only complaint is that your timing is a little shaky - perhaps you need to record with a metronome click.

@ Riaan. Also great! I liked that it was a complete piece of music with distinct separate sections. Nice melodies, both played and implied. Timing also a little shaky, but I especially liked how you slowed the tempo deliberately at the end. The bass notes are very percussive - were you hybrid picking, with a pick and fingers?

No, I just happened to have a nice thumbnail at the time, which unfortunately cracked and broke off a few days later.... :'(...keeping my nails in shape for guitar remains a lost battle!

I did the whole thing on my Godin, using the single coil and the piezo's. I've found that the piezo's are very sensitive - it came out nice in this instance, but at times it picks up a lot of noise especially when knocking near the bridge.

I also did this one without the click track...somehow I just couldn't get a tempo that worked for me. In the end I just hit record and played and played. By bar 1187 this tune popped out!
