Attenuators vor valve amps

Fritz Brand wrote Would you guys say it is at all possible to get decent tone out of this baby without alarming the neighbours? I am trying to make plans to get the bucks, only way I see it happening is by selling / trading my AD50VT, but then I need to know that I can actually use this thing of beauty in my house without having the cops show up. Fritz, I'm presently looking at building attenuators for valve amps that will allow full tone at low volume. I have been meaning to get around to this for Alan for a few months now. The best attenuators are ones that are matched to the impedance of the amp driving it. I could either design a unit to handle a specific impedance, or design a universal unit that will handle 2,4,8 and 16 ohms. The second option would make the unit far more expensive, larger and somewhat less reliable due to all the fancy switching and extra components needed. I don't own a valve amp, so maybe some feedback from our members as to what impedance to design around would be a good starting point.

congrats greame, a good way to celebrate your birthday.
But this means from today onwards you'll be pretty busy.........

I am going to post a recording next week i did for a band, where the tube tamer came in handy.

Thanks guys and thanks to Lean and Sintrex for publishing!

No problem Graeme, this has nothing to do with Sintrex. Sintrex is where I work.
What I did for you is private time and hosted on my webserver ?

The site still needs some work. Will get cracking tonight when I get home.
The images needs some work and the more buttons don't work. Still need some info to place under them.
I will remove them until we need them!

So go on guys order your TubeTamer today!!!!

Seriously cool project and result etc etc....

Just one thing is seriously uncool. I once mentioned that I intend to build something and possibly sell some in future and my topic got deleted because I was "directly soliciting sales". Reading this thread from start to finish it doesn't differ from my post the slightest bit, yet this one is allowed to go on. Seriously uncool admin-dudes.

But yeah, respect to the attenuator thingy.

Graeme did not push sales by advertising. This was a project with input from various people on this forum.

The first mention of "sale" was done in my post above!

So the admins is in no harm here!

It is a fine line, but there is a distinction between a post directly soliciting sales and what we have in this thread.

I did warn Graeme early on via PM, when he first embarked on the project, that he would have to be careful and that stricter rules applied to manufacturers and sellers. So far his behaviour in this regard has been exemplary.

All the praise for the Tube Tamer and talk telling others to buy it has been from third parties who have tried the prototype. Others have asked Graeme directly for prices in the thread and he has responded via PM. All very much above-board and within the rules.

All are jumping to Graeme's defense while I did not intend to accuse him, but rather to show the innocence of my own previous post.

My post read something like: "i want to build xyz for myself and depending on the results i may consider selling some xyz in future"... Never did I say "hi people, here i am, this is my product, the price is X, who wants to buy"

Anyway, nevermind... I'm not on here to do business and much less to argue about hypocracy.

@djpauw - I remember it clearly. Your post ran: "I want to build xyz for myself and depending on the results I may consider selling some xyz in future. If you are interested in xyz, please contact me". That last part was the problem. No set of rules is perfect and there are always gray areas which require a decision one way or another. But believe me - your case was not one of those.

Please understand, we are trying to be as fair as possible and it is not in our best interest to apply the rules arbitrarily or randomly. We want to help smaller businesses grow to the point where they are a larger businesses (who can afford to buy banner ads here ?). Our rules are constructed in such a way to help make that possible - but within rigid confines. These confines ensure that the small business owners who become part of the community get exposure merely by taking part and sharing their expertise with other members, while protecting our members from anything they might regard as spam.

Anyway, we shouldn't continue this discussion on the forum itself. However, you are welcome to PM me to discuss it further.

There's only one thing worse than being talked about and that is not being talked about ?

@djpauw - I feel we should focus on the xyz that you had in mind. Technically and within boundaries, to the best of my knowledge, nothing stops you from starting a new thread describing the xyz you are thinking of building. That is basically how it went with me.

djpauw

lol

@ Sir Alan - I may not have been thinking clearly at the time, also since I don't remember adding the "contact me" bit. But OK, I apologise and now see how to proceed.

Peace out dudes
