Ramble about Importing
Hi guys
I am new to the site and just thought I would ramble on about something on my mind and hopefully get some insight and thoughts on the matter.
Importing form the States has become very expensive the shipping for me has been a major factor, the ZAR/USD well is another story that we cannot do anything about.
Now talking to people who know what they want , they know how much is cost they know how much it is to bring over (normally). These people don't mind waiting if they are going to Save a few R1000s. Nothing illegal but not only Guitars other musical instruments as well, hell if you have other interest like bicycle or other large and heavy Items why the hell not.
So the plot is to use a shipping container from the USA and not via the air.(Yes it will take a lot longer)
Do your online orders in the USA, most products are shipped free of charge anywhere within the 50 states.
All your items are sent to a "Contact 1" that then packages the goods into a container. Maybe reduces the price of the Item shipped by adjusting the invoice or creating a new invoice. You the customer we still have your online copy of the original invoice. This is purely for reducing TAX and customs.
There needs to be a due date that all goods needs to be at the contact. So that everything can be packed reinvoiced and the container sent to South Africa. When it gets to SA we need "Contact 2" that will then handle the Customs for each parcel and courier it with a reputable Courier. All communication is done via email So you will maybe need to pay for extra for customs and how much more the courier will cost.
If this is done once or twice a year it maybe worth while. Not limited to just Guitars. but we don't want anyone to try bring in anything illegal like drug and other crap. Must be a closed loop of people that can be trusted , no advertising.
- How are the contacts paid?
- Duties and Customs paid when?
- No advertising just word of mouth.
- You need to contact someone before your but the goods in USA.
- Local Courier?
- How will cost be shared for the cost of the container?
Please be kind in your comments lets see what comes of this?
Regards
Chuck
