EDIT::Note regarding voting:: seems like the polling software is acting weird. But it still kinda works, (mods can see who voted for whom). So, if you do vote (regardless of an error you may be informed of) It will be counted!

Four tracks this month - and they all got guitar in them! Do they fulfill the criteria of a Line Cliche'?... - you decide!

Onto the entries!

Bluetone - May GuitarTalk Challenge

It's rushed but I won't get time to change that, so here we go:

All electric work is my Les Paul, with some regular and capoed acoustics to left and right. Imported internet sample drum track hastily chopped up to try match sections. 😆

Yeti - Every Night and Day

Here's my entry.

I'm not sure that it truly counts as a line cliche or if it is just an ascending melody...
Anyway, my goal was to write an upbeat pop song, complete with 4 chord loop, super tonic pre-chorus and cheesy, pseudo-uplifting lyrics. Between my tendency towards minor melodies and my more classical voice I'm not sure that I quite pulled it off, but I had fun.

V8 - Hey Bro

Not as much of a redo of a 7yr old challenge entry as I had hoped. Wanted to replace the guitar and maybe add another section, but I couldn't get it right. Left it far too late to figure out, so tweaked a tiny thing or two, rendered and here we go.

Klaasvakie - Baa

Small attempt played live into my cellphone.

Thank YOU for listening & Enjoy!

Who Line Cliche'd the bestest?

This poll has ended.
6 days later

Bluetone : Dug all the rhythm guitars, great 'riff' as the line cliche!. Kick drum pattern a bit odd for the staccto guitars? But that's a nit pick. What guitar did you use for the clean funky section? Missing a tele snap I was expecting. Overall a great instrumental, engaging from start to end.

Yeti : Really really well done, I get heavy 80's pop vibes. Had to listen to the line chliche, but I got hooked into the vocal lines you were laying down - very cool effect and great tune through out. Two thumnbs up...choirboy

klassvakie : Do I smell a mashup? Swear the line chliche is a touch of Beatles? Huge fan of the mashups and that was great - also really well executed (15 takes or not!), love it when a plan comes together!. Must be a goto lullaby for the wee ones? The cell recording is missing a touch of very high end (8k?), I reckon two or three db's boost will help, but it'll get hissy.

Super super tough voting. Is it the most obvious guitar line cliche or the strongest song featuring a line cliche?

V8 Thanks, V8. Everything was Les Paul, actually. Think that funky Dm/C section was all middle position.

studmissile erm...not sure what to. Try the usual, clear cookies, logout & in again? Maybe try different browsers?

No idea why the polls are sideways. ☚ī¸

AHa, hence no snappy tele 😁 Thought it might have been a strat, but thought even that would have been a bit ;ess middy.

Thanks @V8. I originally wrote the melody and harmony lines to be played on synth because I didn't think I'd have time to write lyrics or record vocals... that was full out 80s. I'm glad I did find time to complete it though, I think this version is better.

        Very cool tracks @all

It was an interesting topic. I always learn something new with those competitions 😀

And I'm glad I can work around my technical problems by using Chrome so I can place my vote 😃 (after page reload I can see my tick mark so I guess it worked)

Well done @Yeti - you know the drill 😀 - next topic please!

Great entries all round and a tough vote that eventually swayed towards the most obvious Line Cliche. I think I was able to cast my vote?

@Bluetone - Very polished track and nicely mixed as always. The Challenge requirement was up front and centre. It got my vote.
@Yeti - The mix was a little trebly in my opinion but that being said it's a great song. Loved the tight rhythm work and the 80s vibe. My favourite entry this month.
@V8 - Those vocals and harmonies sounded sweet. Great funky rhythm. Reminded me of RHCP, just too short 🙂
@klaasvakie - Beautiful finger-style and an impressive execution of both picking and vocals. A really tricky endeavour done very well.

          Nicely played gents.

Yeti me too, appreciated the creativity of the vocal line vs instrumentation - that swung my vote.

Did @Yeti win? Well done sir. I can't see nothing in Mozilla? Can't like or reply either? LOL

              Thanks all.
An idea for next month... How about we take a topical page from Mary Spender's book and do a partial rewrite of a song. Let's take the main hook and /or first verse of a song and rewrite the rest of it in our own way.

Congratulations @Yeti - well done comrade, nice to have you back 🙂

@Bluetone Some real quality stuff (as always). You seem to be able to layer multiple guitar tracks so effortlessly - definitely something I have to work on.
@Yeti Looks like you put a lot of effort into this one (and it shows), no accident you won this one. those ascending runs really show off your vocal range and fit in nicely. Agree with @Bluetone , getting some billy joel type vibes.
@V8 Such a playful track - won my vote just because it sounds so fun. Stereo panning on the vocals was nice and great whistling tone.

V8 klassvakie : Do I smell a mashup? Swear the line chliche is a touch of Beatles?

Wasn't trying to be a mashup! But yeah, I can hear some Beatles, I can hear some Jim Croche, but the idea germinated from the very cool walkdown (it's called a walkdown right?) from Tenacious D's Wonderboy.

Thanks for the compliments @studmissile , missed you this time around. Not that I can really talk - I think I skipped 3 or 4.

@Yeti +1 for your finish a song idea.

studmissile It's weird, I cranked up Firefox now, can't even see or edit the poll as a mod. It's like it doesn't exist!

One option is to try Blaze as a chrome alternative - I've not yet, but I think it may replace Firefox as my backup.

Here's the 'view voters' popup - vote counted!

Yeti ow about we take a topical page from Mary Spender's book and do a partial rewrite of a song. Let's take the main hook and /or first verse of a song and rewrite the rest of it in our own way.

+1 from me, I'll have it up n running by tomorrow. We might have to use the attachment's feature on the forum if Soundclouds copyright thingy doesn't like a cover - but that could even feature as a criteria 😀 *Entries must be able to uploaded to Soundcloud

klaasvakie (it's called a walkdown right?)

Man, you taughtt me there - I got no idea, walkdown sounds good to me!

V8 Using Opera now. Tried everything humanly possible in Firefox. No Luck.
                Blaze? Did you mean Brave?

I did! Sorry, I got confussed. Been meaning to get it up n running - perhaps just to remember it's name đŸ¤Ļ
