mmm how about a weekend in Bankok , Thailand heheheh it's cheap prob cheaper to spend a weekend there than at most hotels in this country .....
just kidding .....it is april fools hehheeh ....although yeah it really is that cheap hehheh stayed in a 4 star hotel for R230 a night on my last trip
i just think if something like this happens it will take some serious organising.... i doubt we can just pitch up and kinda make it up as it goes..heheeh but yeah maybe organise a concert ...and everyone gets a slot ..maybe some of the music stores will set up a rig since they will have potential customers there.... maybe even a mini exhibition by the various music stores...... our own frankfurt fair...but in "tweebuffellsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein" just a thought and even the local luthiers might want to exhibit... mmm i feel a biz plan coming on .... yeah it could work if someone pulled it all together ....
peace and light

Well I agree that we should get Alan's input on this. So Alan would you please step in over here.
I also think that allot of us on the forum will get some major issues from our better halfs (not guitars) if we don't invite them with.
This project will take atleast a year to plan. So lets keep this post alive and get more input from the rest of the forum (Alan maybe make it a sticky if you approve of this weekend).
We will need allot of sponsors (I know of a few ? )
Really hope this weekend don't just fade away.

It is a logistical challenge of the highest order, not impossible though. A midway getaway wouldn't be a bad idea, I'm all for the one venue, everyone joins idea. Thaba'ncu resort in Bloem is a great venue and IIRC they have a spa for the ladies (or non-drinkers / effeminate ones amongst us). Not badly priced either or too far for anyone I think. I'd drive through.
Keira, I like the mass concert type thing - talent contest style, if you will. The less experienced could just get up and play an instrumental piece if they like and those with skills could do a set.
Ray, we do have collaborations section here. I see February was downloaded so maybe you've already found it.
Dirk
I agree with Spyke. It would be much nicer if we could do this together. Shouldnt be too difficult to organise a bus from joburg, durban and CT. it might even work out cheaper that way, than everyone driving with their own car. I might be able to organise a 14 seater bus for the Joburg guys (percs of working for Toyota 8))
We can do this guys

I'm sort of feeling a forum 2nd birthday bash coming on... Leave us 6 months or so if I'm not mistaken.
Would be nice to include a workshop or two. Perhaps a playing one and a building / setup one.
Include a dinner with a performance from a respected non-member. Then a open floor section too.
Question is - should we look at a drum machine or should we be brave and invite a drummer? We can lock him in the car once the bar opens.

So far it's unanimous - with 16 of us keen to do something like this.
Money is always an issue, so what sort of package price would make this appealing (besides mahala / free / gratis)?
inflames
Price,
Well if we plan this for next year we all will have a year to save.
So price should not be to big an issue. Just no 5 star hotels ?
Camping should fit everyones budget.

I ain't leaving my gear in a tent! I won't even leave it in my car! ?

Keira mentioned a business plan. I think that is exactly what one of the first steps should be in the planning. Think of some funding plans. A "session"? When I was younger there used to be those things at the Car Club in Springs and then a bunch of bands would play. A couple of days to rehearse, and the Saturday night or so , a session. There is at least one drummer on this forum, so he plays with all the bands all night and cant get gaar. There are also bass players and keyboard players and okes who gooi the west African drums. Ag just some ideas. If it is planned carefully, money shouldnt be an issue.
Dirk
Oky, so who's the volunteer?

Manfred?

Manfred?
ok i'm in............
Since it is only happening in a year or so, i got lot of time to plan ?
anyone else?
AndrewJBryson perhaps?
Are you planning on something for the four major cities or just one for everyone?
Ray
May I make a suggestion? As a precursor to setting up any formal committees, why dont interested parties from the various areas enter into a dialogue and exchange a few ideas on the subject. eg. in Gauteng we can arrange to meet at Keira's jol (Jonathan's) one Wednesday evening, have a good time and get the ball rolling as well. BTW I dont see any 'no' votes here but still only 17 yays. In tis context abstaining is pretty much a nay? Or is it people waiting to check how it pans out? Maybe some missionary work will be required.

Sounds great guys. Vrystaat is cool, I had my first band there and toured the small towns extensively in the 90's. Sherry wasn't enough though...
I'm definitely interested.

Manfred, I'm sure all the Bellville Rock City kids can meet at Buckleys or even Corner Bar.
Just pick a date, let's say after this crazy April month.
I'm seeing Andrew this Thursday, he's visiting CPT. I will chat to him about taking this up with the PE guys.
