Hi Everyone,

I'm challenging myself to record at least one song cover every month from heron out and I'm doing it on a public forum for accountability reasons.

Furthermore, I would like to challenge the guys and gals on the forum to do the same.

No winners or losers, just your own attempts at learning the art of recording. It has been an amazing learning tool thus far but I want to take it to the next level.

The last challenge I'm putting out there is to ask for anyone who is willing to put their hand up for collaboration purposes in a reply below.

Cheers!

I'm keen! What's your list of songs for the next few months?

NorioDS

I'm still looking for one of those katana's so I'm keeping it clean until I find some dirt.

First - About Today - The National
After that I welcome any and all suggestions.

I'm definitely keen but may not get one in each month. Is your plan that we all cover the same song?

Yeti

Awesome,

Whatever you like. This is purely a learning experience with some possible feedback from others to help the process along.

I was thinking of joining in and doing the same list but I might lose interest if I don't pick my own songs so I scratched that idea ๐Ÿ˜›

Here's my list of songs I'm wanting to learn to play/sing:

  • Ben Harper โ€” Show me a little shame (singing)
  • Marc Cohn โ€” Walking in Memphis (singing)
  • Arno Carstens โ€” Another Universe (singing)
  • GnR โ€” Sweet Child (solo)
  • Queen โ€” I want it all (solo)

I had a bigger list somewhere but I have no idea where that list is. Anyway, if I learn the rhythm guitar + singing for all the "singing" songs above, and the rhythm + solo (and maybe singing as a guitar melody) for the "solo" songs above, that'd be awesome.

Also, challenging! (Challenging as heck!)

4 days later

NorioDS Iโ€™m adding to my list:

  • Scorpions - No one like you (vocal melody on guitar and solo ๐Ÿคค)

Now I just have to figure out when to start learning these ๐Ÿ˜

Mornings worked well for me in the past but theyโ€™re pretty busy now and itโ€™s cold ๐Ÿฅถ๐Ÿ˜

8 days later

So my guitar cover isn't ready yet but since it's the last day of the month I thought I'd share what I've been working on in my singing lessons... I mean... singing Mozart counts as doing a cover right? ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyway, I've still got a long way to go but it's coming along. Oh... and no, I don't expect anyone to listen to the whole thing.
Here's Norio's new fangled mp3 thingie...

And here is Sound Cloud

RCVN Thanks man.
You've put together a great cover here. Guitar is spot on and vocals suit you very nicely.
Midi elements... are midi. ๐Ÿ˜› Nicely done.

Yeti thanks man.

I agree.. midi is midi and I needed something to fill the sound... Could've put more thought in it

  • Yeti replied to this.

RCVN I suppose it depends what you're after. You're looking at expanding your guitar skills and repertoire and using these recordings as a vehicle. So in my book midi does the job just fine (my recording has midi piano).

    Great covers guys!

@Yeti Awesome vocals. Very impressive cover.
@RCVN What a great track? Had to look up the original, but you've done it justice.

    Really enjoyed those.
