Welcome to Part 2 of the Guitar Talk LoCkDoWn Challenge! We're helping you cure the quarantine blues...or so we hope!

Using one of the backing tracks below, You'll have 5 days to come up with something, 2 days to vote and after one more round - we'll have some weekly winners and a overall winner.

Now, @Yeti was thinking of us all doing solo's (hence the tracks all have drums, rhythm guitar and bass) - I'm going to expand on that to Leads &/or solo's. The difference is minor...but if all you can do is a rhythmic 'widdle-widdle' or flesh out w/additional something - do it. It's not about showing off, it's about staying sane and tickling your creativity. And YES! All instruments welcomed!

Though if you want to dive a little deeper into the world of solo'ing and constructing a Solo, this is a most excellent-est opportunity. Which is what this face ripping brilliant thread by @evolucian is all about. Really...dive into that thread of goodness, it's all gravy.

📅 Entries Close: Sunday, 12th April 2020, 23:59PM

📜Rules: Entries to be max one (1) minute in length (or the length of the provided backing track). You have to use one of the provided backing tracks. We'll have two groups "DAW" and "Live Jam" For the DAW category, use your toys, but noodling/solo'ing is to be one track only (in addition to the backing track). For Live Jam, just crank up the backing track and record using cell phone (or similar device equipped with a mic). You can choose to sync your recording in a DAW to the original backing track - just go easy on the plug-in's - we;re trying to keep the Live Jam spontaneous...

⁉How To Enter: Record your entry, sign up or log in to SoundCloud, post it there. Then grab the SoundCloud link and reply here with the link pasted in your reply. If possible, please make your track public - that way I can make a playlist up - it's easier for everyone to go through all the tracks - thanks!

🏅Prizes: No prizes...but @Yeti did float the idea of a grand prize for the person with most votes over the three round. Something about a pack of toilet paper...Hmm, colour me amused. Though there is still the fame and glory of winning a GuitarTalk Challenge.

Anyone can enter this competition. You just need a guitar and a phone. But any other recording equipment is fine too. Collaborations with fellow members or anyone you can recruit is encouraged!

Below are the loops for you to use & abuse - have fun peeps! Also, since we're going to try have three rounds of this, should you have a loop you'd like to contribute, please do so in this thread

If you cannot gel with any on the three tracks listed below you are welcome to grab one from the previous round.

Many thanks and Happpppyy Jammin'!

What to do, what to do with these 3x A minor tracks - two of the 12 bar blues...how about some new licks or a change of scale(s)?

3 easy licks - pretty well laid out from Musicradar

From a surprisingly useful post on StackeExchange of all places...

In short: you can play an A min blues scale over the entire song if you want, but it certainly isn't wrong to stray from A min when playing over the minor blues.

On the iv chord, some of the most common alternatives would be the D dorian minor scale or the D minor blues scale. You might also hear a D melodic minor scale used.

On the v chord, some popular choices are the E natural minor (also known as E aeolian minor, which contains a C) and the E minor blues scale. Another option would be to play E phrygian, which can lead nicely to A natural minor. Alternatively, you can treat the Em7 chord as an E7alt chord (make a chord substitution) and play E altered scale or an E phrygian dominant scale:

And, don't forget Evo's face ripper of a thread - the over-simplified tl:dr version of it is - plan your solo, break it down into chunks based on the underlying chords and then string it together into an expression that communicates something.

Happy jammin peeps!

Oops, almost missed that challenge ^^
I always checked the Off-Topic - Competitions section for the starting shot 😀
Nice try, but finally I've found this thread and will contribute my tootling again 🤣

Meticus Nice try, but finally I've found this thread and will contribute my tootling again 🤣

I admit to nothing! 😬 Excellent, I know Warren is feeling up to it, All 3 are in A minor - so I've no excuses to try something, it's literally the only key I can try and solo in 😝

Unfortunately there was not much time to invent a German bagpipe tune and practice enough for the challenge, because tomorrow is Good Friday and German neighbours are very niggling when it comes to noise on holidays 😀
So I took my acoustic guitar and plucked some strings 😄
No icepicky pipes this time, I hope nobody is disappointed 😅

@Yeti and @Stoffeltoo would you mind if I upload our songs to my YouTube channel as well? :-)

So... I jammed something to all three...

    Juventis' Togs Loop

This one was pretty funky to jam along to.

    V8 - Rocking House Loop

This one was challenging... Also was challenging to get it semi EQ'd so you can hear the backtrack and what I was trying to jam over it.

    Lockin Back Track

Groovy type thing. I tried to take some inspiration from Chuck Berry type stuff.

And in the nick of time... Learning from the Pridge here 🙂

Ok my entry, Lockin Backtrack, enjoyed it a hellavalot. Oh recorded on my cellphone and I played on an acoustic, effects by bandlab, both tracks slightly panned left and right each, no doubling. Cheers and good luck

Stoffeltoo I literally played until I had blisters... lol.

They were all so different from the kind of stuff I come up with when I compose so I really wanted to push and get something done for each of them to force myself to think a bit differently about the melody lines and stuff.

      Stoffeltoo With Pleasure

Yeti of course not. Just drop us yhd link when you do.

      Ok, thx 😀
      Here are the links...
If you want me to add any references to your website(s) (YouTube, SoundCloud, homepage, ...) please let me know and I will add it to the video description.

warrenpridgeon So... I jammed something to all three...

Stoffeltoo Ok my entry, Lockin Backtrack, enjoyed it a hellavalot.

@warrenpridgeon very diligent, one track for every Easter holiday 😁
