Yoooohhh, a bumper crop of entries for this challenge, two thumbs up! .

Take a bow everyone who entered, somehow you managed to keep it on track while everyone was losing their minds during Co-Vid19...impressed!!!

Sadly, only one vote each - is how the voting poll works - I'd give ya all more votes if I could...so from me, each entry gets a high five from me! FYI : Voting closes on Sunday , 5th April @ 23:59.

There's no real guide to voting this month, whomever you felt got closest to the style they was going for...though I reckon we'll all have our preferences - these tracks are of a pretttttyyy high standard - well done y'all!

Daveo1977 - Enjoy (Depeche Mode)

https://app.box.com/s/04nls0ju412tg8za1ykv6y6h1fn0pmrn

I was thinking, what if it was Dave Gahan and Martin Gore each with an acoustic guitar playing an MTV Unplugged gig 🙂

Studmissile - Smallest of Chance

4 chords and about a girl? In the style of Motown.

Guidothepimmp - Charlie Big Potato

It is a song called Charlie Big Potato by Skunk Anansie that I transformed into an acoustic jam in the style of MTV Unplugged.

So bit of a back story.. when I started recording this, my acoustic preamp is stuffed, I had the mic's all setup for recording the guitars. One of those highveld thunderstorms came through which is why there is rain noise in the beginning and end of the tune.. but given the feel of the tune, I quite liked it and left it there rather than try re-record everything. at some point you may also hear my excitable 6yr old in the background mumbling something.

Lyrics credits: DEBORAH ANN DYER, MARK RICHARDSON, MARTIN KENT, RICHARD LEWIS

Meticus - Du Hast

So here is my interpretation of Rammstein's 'Du Hast' in style of medieval/folk music 😀

I think I should warn you beforehand to not expect too much xD. I'm learning to play the German bagpipe for about 2 months (and it just sounds like that), but I was told the challenge is for people of all skill levels 😃 The DAW was installed a view days ago, at the beginning of the week I didn't even know the difference between wave editors like Audacity and DAWs. So see it as an experiment and the motivation to respond to the challenge. Ok, enough excuses,

klassvakie (ft Yeti) - Son of Gone Away

This is a collaboration between me and @Yeti, he is the one that came up with all the beautiful vocal harmonies.

This song is Offspring's Gone Away. In the style of Son of Town Hall

Yeti (Ft Guidothepimmp, klassvakie and NorioDS) - House of the Rising Sun

Here's my contribution. House of The Rising Sun in the style of the Guitar Talk Garage Days. It's inspired by a jam we had at one of our first sessions and features solos by some of the regulars: @klaasvakie, @guidothepimmp and @NorioDS (bonus points for telling which is which).

RCVN - Holiday

Weird combo xD

And because I like you guys, here's a soundcloud playlist to run through the tracks (It's missing 3 tracks as Daveo1977's track is on box, and Guidothepimmp's and RCVN's are marked private).

Who styled the bestest?

Votes are almost in...so time for my 0.00002c

Great vocals from everyone that had this month. Seriously, you guys must be practicing or something - they were proper!

Dave
The vocals made it for me, really well done Dave. Loads of feel in the vocals, you completely owned that take. Made that song yor own too - which I especially dug.

Stud
The opening 23s had me waiting for "Sugar Pie, huneybunch" as the opening line. But we detour'ed through Nashville for the verse. Rolled through the chorus like we were heading back to Detroit, but never did quite get there. So this is what happens when Motown groups records in Nashville? I really did dig it though - for me, it need 3 stud's harmonizing behind the main vocal and less 'verb on the main vocal.

Guido
Supremely lush production, layers and layers of sound in a stereoscape- beeg step up - enjoyed it & well done! Also, totally made the tune your own - which is always my benchmark, sounds like you had fun - violins were great!

Meticus
Ich habe Kopfschmerzen.

Not from your playing, which is really good (2 mths? Yip, your neighbours hate you) - you nailed that melody! That set of pipes is a -ahem- ear-cleaning mechanism, makes the bridge pickup on a strat sound like a subtle tool. I know, bagpipes do sound like that. Fun track, two thumbsup!

klassvakie
Well played, rhythm guitar and vox were a cool partnership. Loads of feel in the track - good choice of song to make your own - Also a MTV unplugged style? Like the stripped down production, yeti's harmonies added a cool flavour - great idea, was very, very cool to hear together.

Yeti
Dug the rhythm guitar interpretation of the original, the amp sounds killer - the slappy back-ness of 'verb (i think?) is deliciousness. My guess of the order of solo's: klass, guido, norio, klass, guido. Going for bonus points - klass & guido switched pedals on/off between first and second solo's. For chapman points : guido went from bridge to neck pup (not sure about klass, still debating if there was a pickup change- suspect also went bridge to neck)

RCVN
Great vocal for this semi-spoken word take. You could literally put any instrument under the vocal and it could work. Felt like being told a story, you are onto something here. I could easily imagine this getting airplay, I think get where you were going with the drums, kinda phil collins (genesis era) splashy reverbs, but a more trap kinda rhythm?

Take a bow gents - I'd applaud were it considered hygenic.

I voted for Stud, because...I'm a sucker for funky horns.

Yeh i had a good time with this challenge. Cool idea Klaas.

I thought there were solid entries all around.
Dave, enjoyed the acoustic jam and solid on the vox as well. Nicely done.. you are braver than I going cold with only acoustic and voice. Pulled off nicely

Studmissile. Always solid.. and sounds like a Studmissile tune should. I agree with the Nashville vaaaab and your vocals sounded great. Liked the edgier sound you got. I voted for your tune.

Meticus.. nice and clean.. done the Du Hast nicely. I dont find the pipes as ice picky as everyone says.. i quite enjoy the sound. Reminds me of a band from my youth called Slugs of war. A metal band that had scottish bagpipes..

Klaasvakie.. another solid entry. Reminded me a bit of 5fdps version of that song. Nice thinking with the collab. Yeti certainly has the range.

Yeti... always solid as well.. and great idea on the collab. Enjoyed playing my part. I have the order as Yeti on the 1st and last solo.. intro and outro if you like.. mr. Satchurator (Norio) himself on solo 2. That satchurator pedal is very distinct. Klaas on the 3rd one.. and GTP on solo 4.

RCVN.. dude... your voice has great tone and a killer edginess.. love it. Nicely played on the fiddles too.

shew. ok, well firstly this was a dang close call. but in the end i voted with my heart, despite this being really too close for me to call.

well done all y'all
dh|

Wellll done @Yeti! (And @NorioDS, @guidothepimmp , @klaasvakie and whomever was on bass and drums)

And since @Yeti suggested the lockdown challenge - we'll give him a pass on the dubious distinction of having choose the next challenge...sneaky dude, sneaky! (I approve!)

I do have a few mentions

@Metius get the noob prize - first submission and it was good. Hate to say it, but german bagpipes and guitar do work together. Goddammit 🤣

@RCVN , @klaasvakie, @guidothepimmp & @daveo1977 share the singing-is-winning award. You guys put it out there and it worked. ⚡️

@studmissile gets the coveted V8 award for doing something I dug . Slaving away over a horn section! .

and @Yeti - without a doubt gets the collaboration award, he was EVERYWHERE this month. Great work, much appreciated pulling guys in and sharing your talents.

Thanks gents. It was a fun little track to put together... nice and low effort too 😛

So I put together the 'backing track' (rhythm guitars, bass and drums) and then got the others to solo over it.
@guidothepimmp got it right and can collect his free drink at the bar. I did the intro and outro solos, then @NorioDS, followed by @klaasvakie and GTP to round it out.

Incidentally, thanks for the compliment on my tone @V8... but that was a built in preset from Garage Band 😅

Well done guys nicely played.

Daveo1977- Big depeche mode fan and biasly enjoyed it.

Guidothepimmp - Really loved the echo drenched atmosphere and tone. That song is a challenge itself. Well done.

Meticus - Refreshingly different. Sounded tight.

Klassvakie - Solid collaboration, harmonies and guitar work were spot on.

Yeti (Ft Guidothepimmp, klassvakie and NorioDS) - It had 4 guitartalk members playing. How could I not vote for it?

RCVN - Great track, hauntingly effective. Love that sparse style. Yours and Guidothepimmps were my personal standouts in this Challenge.

guidothepimmp That satchurator pedal is very distinct

That's funny 😝 Coz it was a plugin in GarageBand. My missus also picked me out of the lineup easily. Says I always start my playing with similar licks. Also that I have certain habits that always show up.

Sounds like it's time for me to focus on some other styles to add some variety to my playing!
