  • 14 of the worst onstage disasters for guitarists

Getting up on a stage in front of actual, living humans isn't easy. But it's a whole lot harder when things go wrong. And they will go wrong, friends. So very wrong.

  1. The demon drink
Every band has a wildcard. For some, being a musician is little more than an excuse to get out of their noggin three to five nights of any given week.

  2. Dodgy drummer
If you're saddled with a bad drummer, life is about to get interesting, son

Dropped a few picks, kicked over a mic stand or three (sigh, I was that bassist). Had a beer guzzling vocalist throw up just as we finished our last song.

Easily, the worst was losing the groove during a tricky intro - all three of us came in completely separately - ugly, ugly train smash - like we was playing 3 different songs, together! So bad we didn't know who to blame. We still all cringe to this day ?

We had a wild card bassist too... funny that... the bassist again.

Most nights would be fine. On nights where we arrived early and there were big delays on the start time.. there was more time to drink. Funny thing with him... he had a start button... but no end button.. so for him it would mean being properly pickled.

For us it would mean he would be playing the wrong tune whilst the rest of us tried to get him to register. On more than one occasion we actually had to stop mid tune and tjooon him. What a disaster. That was always embarrasing.

One gig in bethlehem.. no one pitched. It was only the venue staff there. Was a banging show and an epic afterparty.. but sucked cos of the 15 ppl.

Also sucks when the other bands on the bill dont pitch.. and you get asked to play 20 tunes. Only a problem when your band plays original music and you max out at 11 songs..

    Sigh

Oh hang on... i remember another one... our vocalist wanted to get his phil anselmo stance on... so perches his foot on the monitor... monitor is wedge shaped so moves as he steps and moers off the stage with him close behind... with no monitor this ere guitarist couldnt hear much other than general fuzz... so proceeds to lose timing and control of the epic riffage. Thats was epic riffage to epic garbage in 5 seconds.

Can you tell we had fun?
