Pole piece stagger - why on earth do they not (apart from cost?) make the poles in single coils threaded? I made up some pole piece cap cups.
Yes, it is called a "Sctratch Plate". I am member of the anchored brigade, unfortunately.
General idea is to have several thicknesses to choose from, allowing you to fine-tune pole piece heights, but this is time-consuming, pending sorting out tooling. Not that time-consuming, but it takes time to get them at similar cup depth to start with. Cups about 0.6 mm deep. Just to clear the bobbin and anchoring them on the poles.
The downside is, of course, one cannot adjust down, only up, which might lead to problems trying to adjust the pickup height itself. And yes, it does alter the sound.
