  • The South African Post Office tested – 100% failure rate

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/government/273931-the-south-african-post-office-tested-100-failure-rate.html

No surprises in this article unfortunately...

Over the last month, MyBroadband tested SAPO’s ordinary mail and Fastmail services.

For the test, MyBroadband members sent letters from across South Africa to the Lyttelton Post Office, and we tracked how long these letters took to arrive.

The results showed that the Post Office failed to meet a single of its requirements – it had a 100% failure rate for both Fastmail and ordinary mail.

While all the Fastmail letters were delivered within three weeks, not one of the letters met the 2-day delivery promise.

The situation with ordinary mail was even worse. Only half of the letters arrived within a month, and it is unclear when the other half will arrive.

Yeah I saw that one too this morning in my Twitter feed.

Definitely no surprise but glad someone's writing about it.

I stopped using them when we had that massive country-wide strike a few years back. I won't use them for anything again. They really don't deserve the business if they can't secure the assets (our packages and mail) entrusted to them.

sho, thats really bad. as far as I was aware they did have new management in place a while back, but it looks like that has'nt changed anything.

Absolutely terrible, supports my experience. They still have a package I imported in 2015. Luckily it's not worth much.

I've used Aramex Global Shopper since last year. Have had three parcels imported from the US since (all guitar stuff). They're not super quick (usually 2-3 weeks), but at least they are reliable and I can track my parcels. They also have a dedicated import duties section, which means I don't have to wait for them either.

Just spotted a new article on the subject - no real surprises...

        https://mybroadband.co.za/news/government/284822-sa-post-office-the-truth-behind-its-massive-backlog-and-delivery-delays.html

Basically the claim is that there was a backlog after April (non payment of suppliers), exacerbated by the strike in June/July AND international imports that required clearance increased by 400%.

Hmm, okay. Somehow I don't see courier usage decreasing any...
