  • Yngwie Malmsteen Talks Sh*t About Other Guitarists (from Guitar World, 1994)

Man 'o man, do I enjoy when Yngwie talks trash, I reall reading this artile in that issue of Guitar World and the wonders of reddit have uncovered this...ahem...gem.

With the Gil-more challenge this month, this article is gold (even just for the comedy of it), because when I recall when I originally read it, I became very aware of how crap and random my bends were (and still are).

The first time I heard Yngwie I thought, this is good. Then I got more of his songs and eventually realised he plays the same songs over and over. Good for one time. That's it.

Maybe I'm just too slow to hear the genius in his music but I just don't hear anything particularly "unique" or special. I think I can hear 3 of his songs as distinct, entirely different songs. The rest seem like jams over the first 3 ?

And his attitude... yikes. Let's just say he'd fall foul of our "Be Nice" rule in short order and be banned for life ? #justsayin

NorioDS Good for one time. That's it.

I've had the pleasure of seeing him play live - once is all you need (or want). I was ready to leave after the third of fourth song, it was the same neo-classical widdly-woo-woo every tune.

But...I do enjoy his rants, they (to me) are rather amusing! And occasionally insightful,..I think he has a fair point about the bending thing?

? And likely he'd be proud of it...!

Wow this guy is a piece of work!

Never liked his work, now I don't like him either ?

His comment regarding Jeff Beck's playing especially got to me. Everyone knows that's his style, he doesn't WANT to play pitch perfect.

Why is he so surprised that Kramer didn't ask him to play a Hendrix tribute?? Imagine that..
