I took my mom to the Yusuf/Cat Stevens/Steven Giorgiou concert last night and had a great time. His voice is still as deep and strong as it was 50 years ago, and he had an incredible band, with all the musicians playing multiple instruments (sometimes simultaneously- for most of the first set, Kwame Yeboah was playing drums and bass at the same time). He played all the songs he was famous for in the 60s and 70s, as well as some of his newer songs, woven through with covers of Everley Brothers, Beatles and West Side Story songs. Between songs, he told the story of his journey in music and spirituality, including talking aobut how he used to live opposite a theatre in the West End, and leading a chorus of Shosholoza when he spoke about watching King Kong on stage there.
A seated-only concert was a new experience for me, but I was surprised at the age range ofthe crowd- from people who bought his albums when they came out to people whom ight have listend to their grandparent's copies of the records
