I inherited a concertina from my grandpa. It is quite old, but what amazes me is how difficult it is to play. I can play most instruments with ease, but this instrument has really got me scratching my head. The notes are not like any other instrument (From low to high), everything is extremely random and what makes it worse is that in and out is different notes.

Has anyone here ever tried it?

I'm not a boeremusic fan, but I sure got some new respect for them old guys!
Hey boedie, that isnt just for boeremusiek jong. It is a great instrument. I never played it much. But at my father in law's farm I jammed with a bunch of ouens who played the Krismis Wurm and the trek klavier. Dont get rid of it. It is probably worth a lot of money.

The term you're looking for is "bisonoric" ? If you think of accordions then generally piano accordions (with the keyboard) are not bisonoric and proper button accordions are.

I doubt it's random, you just haven't twigged the pattern yet.

Wikipedia's entry may help you make sense of the instrument...

I've also got one,... The English Variety where the notes are different from pushing in and pulling out. I can play " Die HArtseer Wals" and that;s about it.
Thanx for the link Bob, I'll check it out. I figured out a song or two (only on the one side) My Sarie Marais and Suikerbossie. I still suck though!

I would love to hear one in a metal band!
              Allot like Eluveitie!
                How's this for amazing music?

the band "them particles" uses accordian as almost a string swell under the band ..and yeah like sidecar said i love that sound too... not to solo but much in the way "Them particles" uses it as a substitute for strings........ way cool .........
