This is just a thread to list my current place mentally with music.
Feel free to share your sob stories here and for a circle of moaning... hahaha.

Flip oaks I'm having a "fun" time with music the last while. I use the term "fun" sarcastically ???

/rant on
I joined a band a few months ago and was super excited.
I liked their style.
They had some original and some covers.
I was the second electric, getting to play some rhythm and some lead... it was great.
I started learning their songs and their covers.

Third practice...I get there and the band leader is like "oaks we need to talk before we set up".
Long story short, the band called it a day because they had lost their motivation.

Then very recently a fellow music lover was like "would you like to form a band?"... I was like "hellz yeah!".
It was a 4 piece, keeping numbers down to keep it simple. Great!
We got together once for a practice and jammed a song the lead vocalist wrote and we reworked it a bit and it was sounding lekker.
Then... Next practice we sommer wrote a song.
Third practice didn't happen because people had personal stuff to attend to.
And the wheels came off... Band dissolved.

/rant off.

Had some bad luck with "bands" over the last couple of months... so my motivation to do anything musical is at a very low point.
No current sob stories here...but I've history with bands/members losing the plot.

I reckon the second band had a real shot at doing something special - a sentiment which we all agree with now - but at the time someone (vocals/guitars) had to follow a lady overseas. The amusing side was the lady ditching him, returning from travels and popping in to jam with us again. :roflmao:

In my limited experience, getting musicians together is much like herding cats. Having said that, I've made some good friends in bands and if we clicked musically, we've stayed in touch. I'm hoping to have some jams with a friend from my very first band over december, that should be fun, she's damn good.

I enjoy the current band- even despite the djenty genre....we're all professional, mature, communicate well. Practices are scheduled and always agreed on, we all understand our recording responsibilities and we can debate creative inputs - compromises are made, but 95% we all dig what each one contributes.

    But...

This perspective is based heavily on what I expected when I joined, which was just to get to know my instrument better and continue developing musiciality . If I cared about the genre, the amount of creative input, hanging out, jamming or gigging like crazy - I'd have been disappointed.

One thing I have noticed in the Cpt scene is people in multiple bands, so if one band is taking a break the other one is usually up to something. Which I didn't get when I first joined the current band, but I dig it now and it works for me. I'm learning lots in the current band AND still have time for indulging musical passion (right now it's funnnnnnky a$$ bass ?).
      2 months later

Never been in a 'band' per se, only short stints where a few artists get together to perform for a specific event, conference, church, wedding etc. These were usually fun and lasted only until the event finished and everyone drifted on their own again. What I loved was where I got plucked out of my comfort zone and forced to learn a progression or a short lead section, playing with different sounds on the amps/pedals and trying something new.
Also, the expertise from other muso's are always welcome and has stretched me a bit over the years. Something I am gratefull for.

At the moment I am out of the loop with any bands/events and get pretty darn frustrated sitting at home plucking the same old melodies cause it feels like I am not making any progress, but at the same time loving that I can do what I want with my instruments. Currently focusing on Songwriting and composing (don't ask me why) and loving it.
