  • NGD - I've finally found my travel companion!

Originally I had a Baby Taylor, great tone but it was totally impractical and too delicate for travel. Then I got a Squier MINI, that i love but the neck is a little squashed. Finally one of these popped up 2nd hand. Love it, sturdy and fun with impressive tones.

A Hofner Shorty! ?

Sweet! Time to record a video on your cellphone so we can hear it ?
Watched a bit of Chappers' review - looks like loads of fun. Now all you need is a Line 6 pocket pod and you've got portable tones for days. Enjoy the new guitar, studmissile!
Nicccceee find, didn't know these existed. Reminds me a bit of the Hohner headless stick, but at 149 squids (new) it's a steal! And takes normal strings which is a far better idea.

How headstock heavy is it? Would be tempted to pop some strap pins on and a SC pup in the neck... 8)

I've been eyeing on on gumtree for R500...I really shouldn't... :-[
Didn't know the existed either. Its funny cause I was recently watching Back To The Future and I remembered Marty little yellow guitar. Turns out its a Erlewine Chiquita, by Mike Erlewine, same guy who repairs Willie Nelson Trigger. Johnny Winter also played a Erlewine Guitar later in life.

So when this popped up on gumtree I thought close enough. I read mostly great but some mixed reviews about the shorty, so I was a little apprehensive, but actually its great, at least this one is. Frets are lovely with remarkably smooth ends. Chunky but comfortable neck. It is head stock heavy, but not as much as I thought. Gently palm resting on the bridge keeps the balance nicely.

Only criticism, tuners feel cheap, but hold tune. They look ping made.

Will definitely be using it in some challenges....

Turns out they make a bass too

Dang that is a nice axe albeit a small one. Enjoy Stud. Wish i had something like this before going to the sticks in Moz. Would make evening relaxation a most enjoyable pass time. +1 for posting a challenge

Can't wait to hear it in action!

              Tempt me not...damn, too late!

Thanks Stud, now I'm keeping my eyes peeled for one of these. >☹, hehehe
I'm not convinced the reduced size makes it that much more portable. The neck and head are the same, only the body is shrunk.
I am sure it will make a suitable travel guitar, I really like the idea of the full-size neck. I would include a fold-up body extension in the kit, much like Yamaha's idea of a slimline guitar. Well, with strap buttons and a strap, that may not even be required.

The length is tough to shrink significantly, headless designs are better, but come with their own issues (*^%ing double ball end strings and pricey parts). Unless you can pop the neck off there'll always be a compromise.

But having a much smaller body and lighter weight makes a lot of difference when you are lugging all your stuff around on travels. I never really had a issue trekking around with a Martin Backpacker and the current travel companion (yamaha guitele) is even easier...but anytime I travelled with a full size acoustic it was a drag (literally & figuratively). If I have to travel with a full size electric, I pop the neck off.

I reckon the bass on could be gig worthy even, worth the ease of carrying - the fellows over at talkbass seem fairly positive - but a 3 point strap is a good idea I think. Without it, the instrument will want to push away from ya constantly - it's the one of the irritations I have with my Hohner G2T on a strap.
