Hi. Great to join this guitar community! Having trained in classical music as a youngster (not as a guitarist though), I am now getting back into playing music in a big way and am immersed in practice, steadily chipping my way up the steep learning curve and enjoying it immensely. I recently watched a funny series on youtube called 'expert in a year', which documents a guy who quits his job and dedicates a year of his life to learning table tennis (following Malcom Gladwell's '10,000 hours' principle). Although less extreme in my approach, I am interested to see how much progress can be achieved in the next 5-10 years. I have embarked on lessons at the University music school here in Cape Town (for classical guitar) and at the Woodstock Academy of music (for acoustic guitar). Hopefully the combination of disciplined practice and guidance from the maestros will have the desired results. So far, so good and having fun in the process. Not sure how to post my guitars in the footer? Cheers, Greg
Hello to the GuitarForum People
Welcome!
Not enough classical players around here, interested to hear you progress as you get into that world of technique (it intimidates me anyways ?)
At the very bottom of the GFSA home page, you'll see a "active in last 15mins" list of members logged in. If you click on your name, you'll be re-directed to your profile, from there (on the left hand side) you'll find a link "Forum Profile Information" where the signature info is stored.
Though, it's cooler to start a new thread with your gear (even in this thread) - that way you can upload some pics...the common saying is "pics or it didn't happen". Uploading pics, if you don't have a internet photo hosting place - you can upload pics on GFSA : http://www.guitarforum.co.za/how-to/how-to-post-pictures-t4055/msg266767/#msg266767

Welcome. Seems you are really serious about playing, I'm sure you will get where you plan to be! Any information on acoustic and classical, please share as you go along. And keep us up to date with your luthier built story.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Will do thanks. Classical guitar build has been commissioned with luthier Hans van den Berg for a Cocobolo/Spruce doubletop. ETA is early next year.
Very good choice for a Luthier. 8)thenovice wrote: Will do thanks. Classical guitar build has been commissioned with luthier Hans van den Berg for a Cocobolo/Spruce doubletop. ETA is early next year.
Welcome to the fray.
Always great to hear from real classical guitarists. as Modulator said, please share insights.
There is a competition running for this month requiring recordings on a cell phone. Could be a nice introduction
