  • Joburg North Recreational Musicians July Meetup

Joburg North Recreational Musicians has scheduled a new meetup. Details and RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/Joburg-North-Recreational-Musicians/events/240932960/

[hr]
After a slight break, we're back again.

How it works is: everyone practices the songs listed and then we get together and try to play them. We might also try a few others if we have time.

The songs to practice are:

* I'm yours by Jason Mraz

* Wayfaring Stranger by Johnny Cash (traditional, so many versions)

* Breakfast at Tiffanys - Deep Blue Something

NOTE: We'd love to see some non-guitar instruments, especially bass or drums. But almost anything could contribute - I do draw the line at bagpipes, though. ?

Once you RSVP you will receive more details concerning these songs, the location and so on. You will receive them well beforehand so you have time to listen to the songs and practice a bit (or a lot).

I am asking for R10 donation per person to go towards the cost of the group.

NOTE: There are NO instruments at the venue, you must bring your own

Vocalists VERY, VERY welcome.
Mmm... My life is so crazy at the moment.

Do you have a P.A. of sorts? I ask because I'm no longer using an amp but multi effects.

We're not using a PA at the moment, there's been no need. If you need an amp, let me know and I'll see if someone can help us out.

Don't stress for now. If I can make it I will make a plan for a monitor speaker or something like that.

A monitor should reallllly be in your collection... or even better is a ibby troubadour (10-20W, super portable). I have a lot of time for these versatile little amps. Picked up a 10W one for R200!

There's so many things I *WANT* right now. I was in a band recently... for 3 weeks... until they split up. lol.
Not my fault, wasn't around long enough to create politics. HAHAHAHA.
At practices I was running the line 6 into a desk.
At Church I do the same,
At home I either run via USB into my laptop (for recording) or through a dodgy cable into my hifi for general jamming.
My laptop also connects to this hifi.

I really want to get a small mixer with USB. With this I want to be able to record various thingies as well as ditch the hifi and use that for monitoring as well as pc sound.
This will also help me facilitate starting my own damn band! hahahahaha.
              24 days later
Thanks to Slowpoet for the arranging the session!
Yesterdays jam was extraordinary and having two more of the GFSA members there made it special.
Pete M and Bubbalute on guitar and bass respectively with the rest of us on guitars, violin, keys and a full set of drums and a cajon thrown in for flavour.

I will be keeping an eye out for the next one definitely
Yeah, it was a good relaxed bit of fun.
