I'm on a roll at the moment... I popped out for some lunch today and happened to see an Ibanez SRX705 sitting on a guitar rack at a cash converters. I checked the price and saw it was going for R1999. That is really cheap, but I ask the shop assistant if he can do any better. He comes back and says he'll give it to me for R1700!

I have until 5 o'clock to go and pick it up with the cash... Anyone want to talk me out of it? Please?!

It is this exact model

    Do it. Immediately.

Then sell it to me at 10% mark up ?
The only reason I _wouldn't_ buy this for that price is if the neck is twisted- that's hard to fix. Look down the neck from the bridge, and if the frets are all parallel, take it home with you! Nice find!

I think I'm gonna go grab it!!!! That's really cheap for this model though, right? I mean online I can only find it for $500 second hand?

Looks to be pretty straight, but I'll investigate further when I go back after work! Thanks Peter!
            I did it!!

Couple small issues with it, but I decided to pull the trigger anyway! Can't find a 5 string bass for less than 3k on gumtree, let alone a purdy neck thru Ibanez with active pickups!

The neck looks like the truss rod could do with a bit of tightening as there a touch too much relief in the middle of the fret board, but no twisting! (Thanks Peter!)

One missing tone pot knob, and slightly scratchy pot, but all work just fine.

A few of the tone pots are pretty loose, but will give em a tighten tomorrow when I get a chance to play it properly!

General oiling of the fretboard and clean up is necessary, looks like this poor bass was left in a cupboard for quite a while.

A new, DNA-free set of strings would probably also go a long way, but damn I'm pretty stoked!!!!!!

Biggest bonus is that it came with a gig bag, complete with custom ventilation. Ok... they're massive rips on the side of the bag, so big in fact the the neck of the bass tries to peek out when being carried. In the front compartment I also found 2 free rusty nails, as well as 2 spare, used bass strings. Can you say BARGAIN?!

Expect some annoying NBD pics soon ?
I do not play bass, and have long since scratched learning violin and bass off that endless "would be nice to" list. But even so, walking past this one would have been a challenge...

Nice one - A complete steal, through neck, functional high end ibby under R2k! Will be easy to sell for extra $ if it's not your thing. But having a low B at your disposal is addictive, 'specially for drop tuned metal 8)

I do like ibby basses - how wide/comfy is the neck? I think the SRX is a bit wider than the SR's?

Yes, we are only human after all ?

The neck is very wide, the the profile and thickness make it really easy to play. The neck reminds me very much of the Ibanez RG7321 that I restored. It reminds me of a 7 string definitely.

I cannot fathom why it went so cheap, I mean the head stock logo is a little rubbed away, as is the serial, and the tone pots are a little scratchy and loose. But that's about it. Definite score! Thanks for the encouragement!

And yes, the extra string is going to get plenty of use, I spent a little bit of time last night experimenting with some transposed pieces from some songs that I play with the band and I think they will love the new low end growl coming over the PA!

I'm going to be rocking up to practice with a brand new setup, new pedal and new bass. I can't wait!!

One of the overlooked benefits of a 5 strings is playing what used to be open position riffs on the E string as 5th position riffs on the B- much easier reaches and less strain on your fretting hand
