A huge well done to our two entrants this month - t'was challenge to get a song out this month, and Chris & Warren rose to the challenge. Take a bow gents! :applause:

It's only Warrenpridgeon & Stoffeltoo this month. So head to head, one vote...and GO!

P.s. Voting closes on April 13, 2017 @ 9am.

Edit : 11th April - Added Studmissile & Meron Rigas as new entries and updated Stoffeltoo's entry (remix).

Warrenpridgeon - How to write a top 10 radio songhttp://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/warrenpridgeon.mp3 Left till the last minute. So I picked a 4 chord progression. Rhythm and lead guitar through a Mesa boogie patch on my line 6 pod hd500x. Bass guitar through a different patch on my line 6. Vocals through a vocal patch on the line 6. Vocals are sketchy as I came down with flu so I rushed through them as my vocals were degrading. FYI the vocals are for reference. I had some fun doing my own shoowap girl stuff. Haha.

Drums done in reaper with virtual keyboard and drum vsti. Might try neaten the drums with the next comp.

Stoffeltoo - Bitchyhttp://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/stoffeltoo.mp3 Every girly mag, huisgenoot and you have the celebs which seems do not appreciate their good fortune but keep on making asses of themselves. My rant song.

I am the owner of the lyrics should anyone want to record the song

Drums and Bass on Band in a Box Acoustic, electric and vocals by me

Studmissile - The Little Things That Counthttp://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/studmissile.mp3 A 50's chord progression Verse and Bridge E C#m A B, then expanded at Chorus A B E A B E.

Meron Rigas- Twinklehttp://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/meronrigas.mp3 1 hr inspiration, 2hrs perspiration. A bluesy take on the money chords with slightly jazz flavoured voicings (A/C, A/C7, D9min, G7). Mic'ed up the little Elk - rhythm guitar 1 (clean w/reverb), rhythm guitar 2 (clean w/auto filter & flanger), bass (clean w/no treble), lead guitar 1 (fuzz w/reverb).

I used em,G,C,D (but my guitar was tuned down a whole step) so Dm,F,Bb,C.
Didn't have enough time to try out the blues progressions in the article or any of the other more complex chord sequences...
This is the sum total of two afternoons worth of work.

Lucky we never got our collab done Stoffel! LOL! :? :?
I also had to check the dates Stud.
Almost let this one slide but with a guitarist like Warren on the playing field, who can resist the challenge?

        Chords for B*tchy

        G Em D C and Bridge Em D F C

Been brooding on this song for a long time and inspiration only struck me yesterday to finish it. So again a rush job ?

        Regards

        Stof
Meron, should the entries not be closed by tonight, Monday 23:59 only?
I would like to give other potential entrants a chance to enter too. Maybe that last minute push

Well done gents! Very nice. 8)

            Only two entries though? :'(

I've been in the bush for going on three months with ZERO guitar in my hands. Feel like crying. That should hopefully change soon and then I can participate again.

This was an interesting challenge that I would have had no clue on how to approach...

@Dom (referring to comment on previous thread) - Promises promises. We never hear your jams man! You. must. make. time. ?

            Cheers all!

GOLLY...I have been very distracted lately, missed that completely. 100% Stoffeltoo, the deadline was this evening. I was surprised to get any entries for this challenge so, on autopilot, I went with the usual routine getting it posted on a Monday morning.

I like your thinking, it opens the door to the 16hr hour GFSA challenge...get your entry in by 8am tomorrow morning (11th April) and I'll pop it up on this thread.

You know what, I might even dust off my strat. If I can remember where I put it ???
I've sent in what I was working on. I still thought we had another week? ???
What's done is done. Looking forward to the entry.
Right-o, added Stud & my entries and updated Stoffeltoo's with a new mix.

Also added another vote to the voting pool - so now you have two votes to cast however you like. If you have already voted, your initial vote has been retained - you just have another one if you wanna use it.

                      Whoop!!! :goodtimes:
All great entries guys and well done for rising to the occasion.

I still have to listen in detail to every song to swing or retain my vote.

Stud I need some help with vocal recording, you just seem to nail it every time in terms of expression and pronunciation. It mixed beautifully with the guitar.

Meron, those Elks are super amps with nice cleans and a pretty spiffy drive channel as well.

Warren I have some links to drumming software as a VSTi for reaper. Drop me a mail and I will forward the link

As for me the age old truth still remains... never trust your own ears. Mine has disappointed me a couple of times in the past with the mixed final product.

Without hijacking the thread. Why do I have bleed sounds of previous track on new track? How do I stop it? Any advice will be appreciated.

Stoffeltoo : In the style of Stoffel? Track is well laid out (verse, middle, chorus), composition solid but I thought maybe the vocals could have been approached as a story of someone addicted to social media in a rapped/spoken word style than sang? Dunno, just a experiment I'd try.

Not sure what you meant by getting bleed across the tracks - if you were mic'ed up and monitoring on headphones while recording there should have been very little (if any) bleed?

Warren : Reminds me a bit of Tweak meets Green Day - "in the style of Warren". I reckon this is your best entry yet, guitar(s) are real good! Drums still need a bit of work (much improved though), vocals were cool, dug the harmonies you got going on.

Studmissile : Almost pulled out a lighter and waved it around ?. If you can get the vocal recording this good of your last track (Dance challenge), you are winning!

I thought you guy all did something in your personal style - which is very cool to hear. If we still had the anonymous entries, it would be pointless, your respective styles are all over these tracks ?

For me, Warren's has the most radio appeal, Stoffel's idea had a lot of potential and Stud's was the one readiest for the radio.
The only rapping I'll ever do is putting paper on Xmas presents. ?
Thought about it, tried it and it just sounded disastrous. Tx for the comments though Meron.
Warrenpridgeon : Really good tongue and cheek pop/punk track. There some really great bits in it. Well done, definitely stood out.

Stoffeltoo: Great solid track, I'd like to check out those lyrics? I'm discovering sometimes you've got to push that vocal volume a little more than you like, even at the expense of the other tracks.

Meron: Damn impressive. Loved the jazzy influence!

                              Well done guys!
Stud, I will mail you the lyrics and a chord sheet of the current song later this evening.

                                Stof
                                  Great entries gents!!

I would have thought there will be more entries...

It worked on your track this month Stud - the vocals stood out quite nicely. Also your miking techniques are worth sharing with us (You're not the only one Stoffeltoo!)
studmissile wrote: Meron: Damn impressive. Loved the jazzy influence!
Thanks, was quick little verse - tried to stay away from my usual funky noodles...which would have been the chorus had I got to it ?. But...that amp...glad Stoffeltoo kicked our collective bums - I got to mic it up and hear it in action.
Stoffeltoo wrote: Congrats Warren and well deserved.
                                    +1, You've done it, winner!

So the fateful booby prize is picking the next one. I'm leaning towards either a set of mini challenges (Part I leads into Part II) or something highlighting a effect (Delay?). But you've got the vote....let's hear it.

I was the opposite, thought this would be the first "no entries" challenge of my tenure ?
