Hi all

Name's Jacques AKA Pirate, and obviously new to this forum.

I play "rustige" stuff, but also heavier stuff, though I need to work on speed for shredding (just because I can). I prefer lead, but I'm better on rhythm... Actually, I'm better on bass, but I can dream, can't I? Guitar is so much more fun!

Gear currently is a 2001~ Aria STG004 (my first electric, bought new at the time), through a rocktech distortion, Chord overdrive (brand new ?), a Zoom 707II (to be systematically replaced by individual pedals) and a Hiwatt Maxwatt Spitfire little tube amp. I get quite a wide variety of sounds, that the only limit to styles is essentially my skill.

Rock on

Careful there.... you may insult a few bass players on the forum. ?

Welcome Pirate Jacques. Glad to have you 'on board' (get it?)

Pics of your gear will make everyone happy!

Looking forward to hearing your sounds.

Thanks... And by the way, I love that signature line!

PS. "Always keep the groove. Mess up thy notes if thy must, but keep the groove"

        I got the pun ?

I'm not looking at insulting anyone, especially the bass players. I've been playing bass since 2003, and found it an instrument I "got" more easily than the guitar. Currently still actively a bassist, but we may be getting a new bassist for our band (all goes well he starts next week) so I can go on to developing my experience and skill on "lead".

For a quick starter as to my sounds, I'm the guy in the bandana:

*thinks to himself: Now, where did I see that "how to" thread, so I can share a pic of my gear?

Haha Hell yeah! I started on bass (still love it) but when I started focusing on vocals it was easier to play rhythm guitar.
            Let's see if this works:

secondary Bass, though primary bass amp. (I do have an effects pedal, but I seldom use it).

And electric gear: Sorry for bad quality pic, was a cellphone camera and low light conditions. Also, it only has the Zoom 707II (before I started my pedal board - which is in progress)
              Okay that headless is awesome!

                Welcome!

That's one cool looking bass ?
? Thanks guys. It's an awesome sounding and feeling instrument, but the one pickup is getting ready to be replaced at some point, well both actually, and the headless string prices are bordering on the obscene...
Welcome Pirate. Many bass guys around here. Join the fray anything stringy open for discussion. Smaak the amp and pedal rig
Welcome to the nuthouse! Enjoy your stay here and don't feed the locals... they can be cheeky ?

I also went from a digital MFX to single stomps and tube amp... I've since gone back to digital MFX in the form of a Line 6 POD HD500x... Works better for my scenario of playing.

                        Bah, guitarists are overrated... :?

Although...the band have noticed that I'm better guitar player than bassist. Which makes me both the worst bassist and worst guitarist in the band :roflmao:

                        On that note, welcome!

Golly - A 5 string headless, in a metallic blue V config - never seen that before!

Had me a Hohner Jack for the longest time - and I found myself in a similar place, wanted to replace pickups and I was running out of my stash of headless strings, so she got sold.

I did explore a lot of options before I sold her - Status (uk) had a great selection of headless strings, alternatively there are string adaptors on ebay which would let you use normal strings and I found a couple guys who could rewind the pups - the stock humbuckers were a bit bland.

Kinda miss that bass - was a epic player.

Are you on the Think Bike forum? Same name, same welcome we give the new guys there... ? (edit: I saw your post in the hobbies thread... Whatsup? Didn't know you like music as well)

Also, I couldn't find the monthly challenge for Jan17...

Thanks. It's small and pale in comparison to guys I've played with, but I like it. Care to point me to the correct thread you had in mind? Or are you referring to the forum in general?

Yeah, I'm a better bassist than I am guitarist, and I honestly feel I often suck at both. At least I know what and where an octave is...

Here's some info on that bass: http://www.steinberger.com/XT25.html, though I think this is the newer model than what I have. And I received this bass as a gift from an American when I was there back in 2006. But the reason I think the pickups needs attention is that the low B strings notes up to the "F#" (7th fret) gets really muddy... but that could also be as a result of old strings... I can't afford new headless strings, so if you could point me in the string adaptor thingys that you saw I would be most grateful... (now where's that Bow Down emoji?)

                            Here ya go : http://www.ebay.com/p/Steinberger-String-Adapter-Headless-Hohner-Cort-Bass-or-Guitar-Made-in-USA/1232069450

Not sure it'll fit a Steinberger Spirit, so I'd check on string spacing before ordering.

34in basses can be a bit muddy on the low B (I've been playing a 5 for a few months now) - new strings can help a bit. The pups in mine were not great (EMG Select mudbuckers with a ancient 80's preamp) - but usable, especially when you added some drive (distortion).

I had a few spare sets of GHS 5 stringer's (dbl ball end) last year, sadly I sold them with my bass - but perhaps you'll find some N.O.S at Music Mate (That's where I got em) - you never know what they might have lurking in a dusty corner somewhere.
