GFSA Metal Challenge 2016 But if your flavour of noise tends more towards punk/hardcore more than metal...No problem, just make it loud! Rules for beginners/intermediate/advanced : Max four instruments playing at any one time - a Vocal track is considered 'free' (doesn't count towards the four instrument limit). Submissions around 2mins. This month, we'll also have a Band/Professional category - no limits at all (no track limits or time limits). If you would like to enter, send me an email (v8v8v8 at gmail dot com) by 23:59 pm Monday 28th December 2016 with : 1. GFSA username. 2. Track name. 3. Category (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Band) 3. Track rendered in mp3. 4. Optional blurb. Anything you might feel is useful to the listener - info about song, studio, recording techniques, etc.. 5. Please make sure you have GFSA somewhere in the title of the email - otherwise I might miss your submission. Annnnddd...don't forget - collaborations are encouraged. Good luck and happy moshing! I've got an intro. Some verse and chorus parts. Even something that can work as a bridge. Accuracy and speed on time is the issue... And getting the time to record now.

Awww, but I think you've likely you've now got your hands full? Most of the benefits from challenges come from trying, so you did accomplish something - entries arn't always the point...

We've got two entries in so far (thanks guys!) and hopefully a few more to come - though I know the silly season makes free time disappear ???

I'm about 75% there. Let me wife listen and she gave some crit. So I gotta change it up a bit. Hopefully by weeks end.

Ok... I submitted my entry... I tried to add drums... It sort of work... but then it highlighted to me that certain parts were out of time... so I retracked a couple of parts. I still battle getting sections to flow into each other so there tends to be an abrupt stop between two sections ???

I also added vocals... again... I'm trying to work on them... and no better way that singing the same part over and over while recording...

Looking tight for me too, I underestimated the time needed to get back into Reaper after using Ableton for so long. Struggling to get a super tight feel, more so than any 'funk' attempts I tried this year :-[

Did come across this post that helped a little : http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=48884 - "latency compensation" is something that I do manually in Ableton on a per track basis - Butttttt, it's a global setting in Reaper >☹

I will look into the lag compensation for next time.
My latency isn't tooooo bad luckily.
I'm using waspi (I think) in Reaper.
My laptop is a beefy gaming one
I7 with 16gb ram...so I think that helps.

My problem is more the composing aspect of the recording process. I sometimes end up with dead space between sections.

I didn't add bass to this song due to time constraints...but perhaps I can do that today or tomorrow. I have some time at my disposal.

Oh boy. The pros are here now. There go my chances. Hehe. I tend to send samples to a couple of buddies when I get around to entering the 'competition' they always ask what I can win...I do it more to grow...even when there are prizes. Just getting something together to submit is a huuuuge win for me!
