Hey there

Decided to wind these puppies.

*Alnico 5
*Staggered pole pieces
*Heavy Formvar wire 42 AWG
*Vintage correct bobbins
*South Pole on top (some sources say they were north, some say they were south, I decided south)
*waxed cloth leads
*Non-RW/RP (no hum cancelling, vintage correct)
* Between 5.8K and 6.1K

Have not waxed them yet, got some real bees wax and paraffin.

And my home-made winder

    Welcome palaughton!

Thanks for posting, these look very neat!

Any chance of a audio clip or three? Curious about the quack/glassy sound you'll be getting with these!
I will definitely try to get them potted and back in the guitar later in the week, and shoot a video. Got a new baby in the house so free time is a scarce resource.
        another pickup winder??
Unless you're Niel from Rude Rock pickups?
Do you wind for others too or is it only a home project?
Definitely not Niel, Hobby winder, very passionate about pulling wire ?, I can wind for others. Serious fan of vintage pickups (low output stuff).

These babies are going into a strat I have had for a few years, I think out of all the strats I have heard from my heros the 1959 sound is the one that rings in my head (although there is little difference between 57-59 technically).

I potted them last night, looking forward to installing them, going to do some shielding work on the cavity, mojotone caps and install a bone nut and get her back to working order.

            Fender or Gibson? ?

Aww, no worries on a recording - the only way to properly appreciate them is when the guit is in one's hands. Pity you can't teleport down for the Junkies Builders day on Sat (Cpt)

            +1 for low output.
Interesting... I'll send you a message..

You understand. Thats 80% of the law. Others would vehemently disagree, but once you've wound the pickups of varying resistance - using the same wire, magnets etc. you learn that there is a sweet spot for good tonal range.
