  • Elevenrack plus FCB1010 issue HEEEELLLP!!!!!

Hi all. I'm really hoping someone here may be able to help.

Sometime back i bought an Elevenrack but haven't used it live as i was waiting for a Behringer FCB1010 controller to come up for sale. One did and I was overjoyed to find it had a Eureka 2.0 prom installed which has an Elevenrack configuration. Let me just clarify at this point that I have a technical background and know how this stuff is supposed to work but we are never too old to learn something new so here is the issue i am having.

Let me preface this by saying I have been in touch with Eureka Sound and they are scratching their heads as well. It seems anytime i have a problem in life its super weird and I'm the only one LOL. The issue is that when I put the FCB into patch mode it controls the Elevenrack no problems. When i put it in effects mode it doesn't switch the individual effects on and off but here it gets interesting. Lets say all my effects are off and i press the pedal to switch on overdrive, nothing happens then i might press modulation- again nothing, go back to overdrive (pedal 1) and it switches on wtf??? Now i try switch it off again- nothing. Press pedal 2- nothing, press pedal 3, all of a sudden delay turns on. This is just an example because even this bullshit doesn't follow any pattern.

What i have checked:-

Midi cable is 100%, I have tried 2 (also tried a midi cable with ground disconnected in case of earth loop issue)
Midi channels are fine Elevenrack set to Omni (recommended)
FCB1010 reset to clear user settings. FCB1010 diagnostics run with midi cable loop from midi out to midi in on FCB1010 - PASSED diagnostics.
FCB1010 is in Elevenrack mode as per Eureka sound instructions.
Elevenrack reset for good measure (you never know).
FCB 1010 Pedal calibration done.

In my opinion the following is the clue to solving this problem:-
Lets say for example you put the FCB1010 into calibrate mode, all vids and instructions tell you the display should read CA, mine reads +1.CA. When setting mode for which gear you want to control with the FCB1010 the initial display should show A3 for the Adrenalinn or 11 for Elevenrack etc but again mine displays +1.A3 or +1.11. The guys at Eureka Sound say this should not be on the display. Yeah i agree but why the fk is it there? It must be some weird mode but I cannot find anyone on the planet that has even seen this let alone wtf it is? Behringer is clueless and Eureka sound is clueless, come South Africa lets solve this :applause: :goodtimes:
Do you have a way to trace all MIDI messages being sent? There is no way to figure this out without knowing what communications are going on.

      Hi Gearhead,

Great idea ?. I need to find where i put my UM-1 midi interface and just record pedal messages into Sonar one at a time and check what the FCB1010 is actually sending, now just to find the fkn thing as the FCB1010 doesn't have usb midi.

I am actually ready to toss the pedal out the door and run my Elevenrack via the midi backtrack player for playing live with my midi backtracks, or better still, stick with the HD500X, it kills the Elevenrack live. Anyone want a cheap Elevenrack LOL
I dont much about midi controllers, im just an IT guy, but cant you back up the data on prom onto your pc and reflash?
Could it not be that the prom is faulty? have you tried re-seating the prom?

Can you check if the foot switches and logic behind it are working on the ? Seems that the message right or wrong is not getting where its supposed to go. A bit difficult to check if you haven't got a scope and a diagram(even with a diagram it will be difficult to check I guess) Whatever you do on the pedal board should be visible on the midi out signal cable. If there is nothing then or some switches aren't working you can check the electronic path from the switch maybe ?
          Just googled this :
          fcb1010 - UnO - Eprom - voes.be
          www.voes.be/fcb1010/uno.htm

The UnO chip is a "UnOfficial" eprom update for the Behringer FCB1010. It has solved many errors and gives more functionalities like the stompbox-mode.
If you use the 1010 with something like a TCE G-Force, then the UnO is nice since stompbox lets you switch individual effects out of a chain. If you on the other hand use ready-made effects chains and prefer to leave them as they are, then having 10 effects in a bank is nicer than 5. The UnO solves some smaller other issues of the standard Behringer chip but is competition of Eureka rather than their bugfix.
Thank you all for your suggestions I appreciate all your comments.

I have tested midi function of the Elevenrack by connecting it to my PC via midi and adding a midi track to a song and utilised different controllers to control it in realtime while the song is playing. I tested individual effects on and off functions like using CC 25 to turn distortion on and off etc etc. The Elevenrack is 100%. I think i will keep it for now LOL.

The guys at Eureka Sound told me how to rest and run diagnostics on the FCB1010 unit. It passed. Still it IS the problem. It doesn't work as it should with the original Behringer prom either. At this point let me tell you all about the service i received at Eureka Sound. After about 3 emails they asked for my address, yesterday I got an email from PayPal to say a new Eureka prom has been shipped and gave me a tracking number  Companies like this give me new hope and should be supported. To be clear this prom was already shipped before I diagnosed that it was the FCB itself :-[ It may well turn out that both are faulty and I will only know with a new prom and another FCB. I do NOT want to plug the new prom into the current FCB, I don't trust it one bit although as a tech, i have checked internal supply voltages etc and everything seems in order :yup:

Here it gets even better. The seller I bought it off , offered to replace the FCB for me with another second hand one as soon as possible. Yes guys there are still good people with a conscience and high morals in this world which just blew me away as most people will shrug their shoulders and probably just inform you its not their problem.

I believe in passing on good fortune so if and when I have my FCB kindly replaced, I will have 2 Eureka proms which are capable of controlling the Kemper, GMajor, Line 6 Pod Pro X, Elevenrack etc etc. The one I'm expecting will probably be the Eureka 3.0 as the 2.0 is no longer available but I will gladly give my Eureka 2.0 prom to someone who needs it.

Thanks again and keep on rockin :bopping:

Yeah I had to share that because I was ready to burn down the planet, starting with the FCB1010 and working my way up LOL

Will let you know as soon as i have new fcb1010 and new Eureka 8)
                      24 days later
In case anyone gives a fk heres an update LOL

Received a Eureka 3.2 yesterday, finally ? Snailmail is ridiculous holy c$#@

I installed and still have issues so the FCB1010 hardware is faulty >☹ This was my diagnosis all along.

I think its time to sell my Elevenrack ☹
Why would you ditch the ElevenRack if there's something wrong with the FCB??
Would it be doable to test with another FCB to make sure about the verdict?
2nd hand FCBs are not all that expensive, so you might sell yours as defective and buy another without dropping too much....

Hey Gearhead. I am 100% the FCB is faulty. To prove the Elevenrack is 100% I controlled it via Sonar and it responds as it should. Sure I could program all my patch and effects changes into a midi track on an unused midi channel but with our repetoire that will take me weeks. I already paid for this FCB so if I buy another one I would have paid way too much for a controller. Almost double for one, doesn't make sense. So why ditch the Eleven? I own 2 Line 6 POD HD500X's which are always loaded with the exact same patches, one in a bag and one in a pedalcase with radio receiver etc, so depending on the gig and space I take one or the other. I was hoping to use the Elevenrack that's why I got the controller. This would give me a third option which would be racking it in the PA amp rack. After about 6 weeks of no solution I am just getting a bit despondent. I just always wanted one and have been excited to try it out live. Maybe I will just stew a while longer and see if I am ever going to get this FCB replaced ☹ I missed one yesterday which went for R1500. Another one in town at R1900 but reserved at the Gearjunkie. New they are priced around R4000 - NOT paying that LOL
