So I've finally had some cash to burn and instead a new guitar or amp, I settled on a Pocket Pod. I must say this thing is absolute awesomeness. I'm sure purists out there will go on about thow "electronic" it sounds, but I love it. The perfect practice and recording tool. All the emulations sound great imo.

If you are considering a Line6 pod, this one comes highly recommended. And for R1495 I reckon its a really good buy.
Please let us know in 6 months what you think. Honestly I'd really like to know.
I also have one of these, bought it about 4 or 5 months ago, strictly as a practise/light night
jamming tool. While it does not compare to any of the more expensive and bigger
units (neither does it try to), it is quite cabable of getting a few good tones, and it is very easy to use.

Ok times Up... How is it?
lol! Completely forgot about this thread!

Anyway, i still use it for all my recordings and I still love this thing. Only after a while did I find ways to get the sounds I want for the songs I want to play. It really is great, ecspecially for 1.6k.

though, the bundeled software is crap, I never use it and there's almost no online support for it. Or at least none that I could find helpfull.

Obivously, it doesn't sound as good as the real amps etc, but this is a damn good buy in my opinion. But of course, with GAS its only a stepping stone ?

Well, I've owned all the Pods, from the original Pod 1, all the upgrades, then the Pod 2 with upgrades, the XT with all the upgrades, and ended up keeping a Pod 2.
Keep in mind, the Pocket Pod is basically a mini Pod 2, it has the same chip and software.

The JCM800 sim is still one of my favourites, modelled after a Mike Soldano hot rodded JCM800.
The Black Panel 65 Deluxe Reverb also rocks big time.
I love the Compressor as well.

Listen to the Pod 2 recordings on my Soundclick page, they still sound pretty damn sweet to my ears after all these years...they were recorded 5 years ago.

              wow that sounds good...
Btw, there was a firmware update released about three weeks ago that fixes two or three small gitches, including the delay tempo not changing during bank changes.

How much did the Blackstar cost you...I'm itching to try one.
I saw one at Music Connection yesterday, with two 1x12 cabs, I was rushing and didn't get a chance to play it.

Price was about R6500 for the combo version, but I got some goodies like Monster Cables thrown in. I'm sure you can get it for a lot cheaper than that, I just needed some good cables to go with it at the time!

It is really a great amp, with a lot of variation, both clean and with a lot of gain. Definitely THE top 5 watt tube amp, in my opinion. You should really go check it out...

So it wasn't just me? I had the Pod Pro (Rackmount Pod 2) and when I compared to the XT, the XT lost badly on the tonal front. I thought it might just be me being quirky. ?

When I got the GT-PRO, I thought that would replace the Pod2, but while the FX were far better on the Boss, I still preferred the Pod2's amp and speaker sims so the Pod stayed on magnetics while the GT replaced my ageing GX-700 on the piezos. Then I got Guitar Rig and both the Pod Pro and the GT-PRO went bye-bye.
Alan, agreed....the Pod always beat out the Boss stuff when it came to amp sims, but the Boss was better when it came to FX.

Now all the talk is about the Axe-Fx, blah blah blah, the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Well, the recordings I've heard at TGP have not yet convinced me...although it does seem like a high quality advanced piece of "digital" gear, but too pricey for my pocket.

Do you think the Axe-Fx would sell well in SAfrica?

I doubt it. Maybe half a dozen over the space of a couple of years. There's a limited market for the high-end stuff and I think the guys with the money are more likely to buy boutique amps than an amp modeller/FX unit. I suspect the main business would be to a few of the high-end studios.

When the technology gets released in a lower priced unit, you might see more of an uptake - much like it did with early modellers. Remember the VG-8/GP-100 - neither sold particularly well as they were expensive, but when the PODS appeared, which were a lot cheaper, the modelling market boomed. Boss' own lower priced spin-offs (The GT-series) have done very well too. Now of course, modelling amps have taken over most of the low end of the market.

                            Fully agree.
