  • Ibanez GIO pickup replacement

Hi guys.
One of my axes is a cheaper Ibanez GIO in a lovely lime green.
I love this guitar to bits as my wife bought it for me out of the goodness of her heart. Easily my favourite guitar out of the lots because of the memories associated to it. I play it more often than my Tele actually.

It's an awesome guitar, but I've been playing more and more bluesy stuff and the GIO gets a little muddy at the best of times.

I'd like to replace the pickups on it (currently cheap chinese stuff as per all entry level guitars) to something with a bit more character, perhaps some mid range kick. Playing through an AC15C1.

Is it worth replacing them and if yes, what is recommended that won't break the bank?
What are the pickup dimensions? Providing they're a standard size that's easy to find, it's almost always worth messing with the electronics if you like the ergonomics of a guitar but the sound doesn't talk to you. I was very happy playing a Cort Curbow with a US-made Bartolini pickup upgrade that was worth more than I paid for the bass.

Others will come along with specific pickup recommendations, but the exchange rate makes it pretty competitive to get pickups custom wound locally by someone on this list
      Thank you Peter.
Not looking for anything specific, just a decent upgrade.

Pickup size looks fairly standard to me

Not my guitar, but similar pups
