A P bass sound with a J bass neck...Great combo imho - I'd want one if I already didn't have one. ?

Parts look great, but 30K...yeah - that's one pricey "Limited Edition Neck Plate"
If the ZA retail on a $1300 guitar was R47k the other day, I shudder to think what this one at $1600 will be. :'(
even with the "just for you" 30% discount, a lot more than R30k.

47K for a $1300 guitar(excluding case) is a rip of. I import and I know. They must be making 40% GP(60% mark up) on that item. So it stays in the shop for a year or so and then they sell less 20% or more ?
Just before peoplethink I'm pulling these numbers out my ass.
This was on the Fender Pricelist, at a music store in Rivonia.
For the MIM Signature Troy van Leeuwen Jazzmaster.
No stock in South Africa, of course. So would have to be imported in etc etc etc. Would take a few weeks to get into SA as well. As it does. :/
Whatever the case, this limited edition bass will be cheaper to import yourself.
Fender ZA sees limited edition and signature models as cash cows in my opinion.

          I'm a slightly better negotiator... ?

          Not sure, but possible.

I did some math when takealot had MIM Standard strats on sale at R7995 (RRP 14995) in Feb - they were 600USD on amazon (+.- R9000) at the time. I reckon the distributor was still breaking even at R7995.

One thing I'll say in defense of Fender (Tokai, Roland and Yamaha too) locally is that when I need spares, they have or will get - try that with Line6 or Behringer distributors.

Yeah, I'd agree. But look for any boutique items locally and you'll pay a premium, especially if you have <G.A.S> - why? Because there's higher opportunity cost in stocking it vs stocking 2xMIM instruments which are likely will sell quicker.
