  • BOP (Bophuthatswana Recording Studios) Sound on Sound article

It's amazing, but it is and will always be the biggest white elephant in Africa!
Not even close to full operation.

Currently it's just a nice live room, with a control room with a good monitoring system. You have to bring your own DAW and mics.

It is currently in the worst condition than it's ever been.

Check my thread here: http://www.guitarforum.co.za/recordings/measurements-of-kinoshita-monitoring-system-at-bop-studios/ for some more info on the great monitoring systems there.

I've recorded there on two occasions now.
A friend of mine was the tech guy there so he knows the studios and gear there very well.
There was also the massive robbery there: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/477731-stolen-gear-bop-rec-studios.html

All the Manley valve power amps, that use to power the monitors, have been sold to local hi-fi enthusiasts (also some guys I know over at AVForums). I will probably listen to one of the amps next weekend at one of our hi-fi get togethers.

      No idea.

None of the gear was ever recovered.
        Thanks Micron, interesting threads.
        1. What do they charge?
        2. Did you stay over there? I mean how close is it to civilization?
