Hello everyone.
So I did a quick search for any threads that talk about or review the Boss GT8 pedal. I couldn't find any, just mentions here and there.
So I have a question....
I am able to, as of yesterday, get my hands on a Boss GT8 Effects Processor. I have watched a few 'review' vids and it looks like a good solid piece of tech. The amp and effects simulations seem great and very 'real' (not to digital).
If I purchase it I will be running it through the PA system at church as I don't have an amp that can really get the sound out.
Now - how does this 'pedal' stack up when using a cheapish guitar? (Adonis Electric - Strat Body with 3 pickups) I currently use a Behringer XV-Amp Multi Effects pedal..... which is.... 'ok'. Nice effects but the amp simulations are terrible and the tone really sucks. been using it for 5 years but I am looking at improving my sound.
Does anyone have this pedal or used it in the past? What are your opinions.
The guy (whom I know quite well) wants R2500-00 for it. What do you think?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Hey Wern,
The GT-8 is a great pedal. It does effects really well, distortions and overdrives are pretty decent. In my experience though, the amp sims were not great. They'd be better than your Behringer (although I've never used one).
From what I've read, the GT-10 really upped the game with the amp sims. And the Line 6 XT range is AMAZING at amp sims. That is their strength, where they're not great at effects (but not terrible either).
Best of both is the Line6 HD500 (but also a lot more).
So, always a bit of a dice. If I was in your shoes (I play in my church band too), I would get a Line 6 XT (here is one for R3k, maybe you can haggle him down to R2500: Personally I think it'll really make a big difference getting the amp sims down going directly into a PA.

Cant go wrong with the GT8...had one a couple of years ago and it did what is says. Was not overly thrilled with the amp sims but the stomps were great.
Only issue I had with it was that I kept tweaking it as the permutations are endless.
R2500-00 is an ok ish price, maybe haggle a bit, worst comes to worst you can sell it again for pretty much what you paid for it.

If you go for the GT-8 get a free copy of the "GT-8 Master" book/manual. It will keep you busy for months. Shows you all the tricks you'll ever need to master the GT-8. Also get software for the GT-8. It makes deep editing of the unit a breeze. The GT-8 is super versatile. Having said that I have never played a Line 6 so what I said must not be seen as favouring the GT-8. What I like about the GT-8 is that it has knobs and can switch to manual mode for live tweaking.

Great unit. I used the Pro (rack) version for years and even when I upgraded to a POD Pro, I hung on to the GT-Pro for acoustic (then sold it, then bought another within a year).
As others have said, the amp sims are OK, but dated. The FX are still great though. They are very powerful, and that means many settings and tweaks you can/must do. If simplicity is more your thing, look out for an older POD, which has better amp sims and is simpler to use (but not as powerful).
I wouldn't want to pay more than R2K for a GT-8 and have seen them often selling for less than that. Still it's a hell of a lot of FX power for what you pay.
