Hello guys and girls

Ive recently bought a old marshall 8080, I re capped the amp, replaced the transistors, replaced all ICs in the pre amp and installed 8 pin IC sockets so that they can easily be removed in the future. So the amp was working fine and then the other day my transformer shorted out. Ive replaced the transformer with one im lending from another marshall 8080 and my amp is working fine again. So now I want to know if anyone perhaps know were I can buy a replacement or maybe someone has a faulty marshall 8080 that would like to sell me their power transformer.

    Hi Naz

    What area are you in?

    Judging from the following schematic
    http://www.amparchives.com/album/Marshall/Schematics%20&%20Layouts/Marshall%20Amp%20Schematics/Valvestate/8080%20&%208100%2080W%201x12%20Combo%20&%20100W%20Head/index.html

there are 2 transformers, the mains transformer and the auto transformer.

The mains transformer looks to be about 150VA with a 50v-60v CT tapped secondary.

It is possible to have the transformer re-wound, in Jozi I have used Peter Souris before.

Or a new one from TOMS?

Hello, im in cape town, N subs.

Ive thought about having the transformer re winded but my old transformer is in a bit of a state so Id rather have a new one made if it is possible. If I remember correctly now I think the transformer is 120VA 30 0 30. Ive seen transformers with these specs for sale but they have different mounting and dimensions that the one from my valvestate.
The auto transformer supplier volatage to the 12ax7

Im really hoping someone has one from an old valvestate 8080 that they will sell to me ?

        Is the core OK?

If so, the rewinders will strip off all the old wire and all will look good!

And if you have lost the vanity cover, they will be able to source a new one.

        Speak to Karel Mars.

Either way, hope you come right.

The core is OK, it has been potted, cleaned, varnished and baked again, looks very rough! But should still function.

One of the tabs broke off so thats not so good.

But I think the core should still be good to use again, thanks man ill see where I can take it to have a new once made for me.

          Cheerz ?
