Here's the front plate in its final resting place on the amp. All the hardware installed and awaiting further configurations and instructions ?

The enamel recommendation for the lettering went along with using enamel gold too, not aerosol. ?ez wrote: OK so it turns out enamel paint is an EVEN WORSE match to lacquer spray paint. The aerosol dissolves it basically immediately so after that test failed we went to plan C, which is paint the letters with acrylic paint again then, once dry, we painted it with a clear varnish. Then I sprayed it two layers of gold. Result:
If you want to do this, don't. Do it like this:
I'll do the back plate tomorrow. That one has a f*$#ing flag on it. I must get my head checked.
- You have the perspex cut to the required rectangular size.
- You spray it gold on one side with this colour. Many layers.
- You send it back to the place and have them cut the holes and do the engraving
- You paint / spray the letters black.
- RNFKR
Luckily I tested it on a cutoff first. It seems any paint will work but the back must be sprayed, else it won't be consistent.shaunf wrote:

*Edit* : what is the actual aerosol called that you used, and the colour?
Looks really cool. Coming together nicely.
Who knows, it can't really go anywhere else so that'll have to do. I think it'll be ok because that cap is the filter cap for the screens on the power tubes and then an extra stage on the way to the preamp where it will get filterered some more. So 1. I'm hoping the signals are strong enough to overpower any noise I get here and not be audible and 2. I assume it'll be the same noise on both power tubes (common mode) and hence get cancelled out in the output transformer (this is one big advantage of push-pull amps). I'll bugfix if I have noise but I think it'll be ok. This is not a high gain amp so my lead-dress can be a bit shoddy, compared to things like Trainwreck Express or Soldano SLO et al.Eujean wrote: Out of curiosity, isn't that cap you mounted on the chassis inside perhaps a bit close to the transformer? Might induce some EMI noise or something? Dunno?
But it really looks good so far! Wonder why no turret board yet? Probably still drilling holes ?

I'm sure the extra unused holes will play a super-important part in shaping the tone.....
