August Mini Challenge [VOTE]

FruitarGeek · 2015-08-21T11:54:56+00:00

Really impressed guys. I put you all in the same group, because I feel these challenges are less about voting, and more about developing and improving as a guitarist/musician. And to be honest, unless you are Andy McKee (go Google), then there is no need to separate categories. Use this opportunity to comment on the tracks and provide constructive feedback and tips etc. Lu22 - Mary had a little lamb http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/Lu22.mp3 Okay so this is my first submission, and there's plenty wrong with it. I recorded using my ESP LTD M-10 on a Behringer GM 108 via Rocksmith Realtone Cable and Audacity. Hasie- Hansie slim http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/Hansie.mp3 Hansie slim - for the children of metal appreciators. \m/ Recording setup: Ibanez RG1550FM -> Blackstar HT-5R (Emulated output - 4x12 output) -> Behringer UCA222 -> Cubase AI. Iain Rossouw- Siembamba http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/Iainrossouw.mp3 Here is my entry. Siembamba. It would be interesting to know what the words of the nursery rhymes refer to. I think Siembamba refers to a Fiskaal but I may be mistaken. In most cases these rhymes refer to really horrible historic or cultural events V8- Row http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/V8.mp3 A kinda fakemenco version of Row yer boat - Boy, did the hands feel rusty trying to get this one out in a hurry =D Norio- Polly Wiggle http://guitarforum.co.za/gfsacomps/mp3s/Norio.mp3 When we were in Grade 1 or Grade 2, we learned this awesome little tune. I loved it so much and, once I got into metal, I always wanted to turn some old nursery rhymes into metal numbers. Well I finally did that. I recorded this on my BR-600. Bounced it to 1 track and manually did the panning with the sliders. It was very easy but it doesn't come out too clear. Need to practise that I suppose but I didn't wanna miss the deadline. Huge thanks to V8 for reminding me to enter! You da man! Woohoo! I'm a weiner ?

For those who enjoyed my entry, you can listen to the original version (with drums courtesy of my BR-600), on SoundCloud:

I recorded it with drums to help "remind" myself of the feel I was going for and to help with timing. I then silenced the rhythm track to get the 2-track version you heard in my entry.

Man I love my BR-600! It's sad that I've only really started using it properly now!

Well done all!

:applause:
Congrats on the wein Norio.

Still, I believe everyone fulfilled the purpose of this challenge and it was great fun. I cant wait for the next one.

studmissile

Well done Noria and all. Great Mini Challenge!

FruitarGeek

Well Norio if you can think of a challenge, hit me up. But it will only take place next month, so take your time in deciding.

Hasie

Congratulations Norio. A well deserved win.

NorioDS

Here's some options:

- Spring theme. (Yay!)
- Guitar ballad.
- Egyptian theme. (Phrygian Dominant, anyone? ?)
- Indian theme.
- Greek theme.
- Portuguese theme.
- Spanish theme.

Okay ^^^ lots to choose from. Reply with what competition YOU want to enter next month.

I recommend choosing something you feel you can easily win so that you actually enter ?

Hasie

Hola Señor. Elijo español. 8)

Well, not easily win it, but I will be able to enter.

Stoffeltoo

Congrats Norio!
Well its prolly the aspiration of every guitarist to want to do a Spanish/flamenco type piece. So yeah! I'm in.

Hasie +1

That's what I *thought* I did this month...#fail ?

Let's see if I can actually get some practice before pressing record - nylon stringer No.1 expressed her disgust at being sooo neglected for the last year.

Lu22

Yeah lets do Spanish.

TokyoP0P

I was thinking the Spring theme would be cool but Spanish is good too. I'm game.

G-Man

I chose a spring inspired entry when I won the comp many moons ago. It garenered a whopping 0 entries in all categories and my topic was skipped. I say avoid.

Spanish sounds like fun.

V8

Was trying a few idea's out last few evenings and considered the idea that not all spanish music is flamenco ???

But what genre/styles could be considered? Classical, Baroque and I suppose anything latin flavoured, which would open it up a bit to Santana flavoured rock, which is a nice option...?

Also...there's a little snippet of challenge news, I'll let Norio/Adrian officially announce when the deets are ironed out.

FruitarGeek

SO you guys going with the Spanish idea? I think we will have the competition up next week. And yes, we do indeed have good news.

TokyoP0P

Winner gets a Suicide Girl?

I'm in, hands still very rusty but there's a idea gestating.

It sounds Spanish in my mind... So yes...

Stoffeltoo

Mmm time to get pluckin again

Umm, mini challenge or full on? Got my fingers crossed for a mini one with a slightly longer deadline...or perhaps a slightly amended format, 1min - 2 tracks + vox...?
