I have started with a new neck.

Like I said, a new neck, why? the 1st one was concave, sad but a good lesson learned. The 2nd is nice and flat and the overall result so far is much better, the grain is not as nice bit will do. Next: a trussrod, a router and a fretboard blank. pics inserted

You can always just buy a kit from Blackbeards den for a starter project just to give you a idea whether you actually want to go to the whole custom build thing. Tools are a bitch to get hold of especially the power tools. Hand tools are a bit easier and there are a million sites on the net for kits. ?

So I was fortunate enough to get some help from a friend with a thicknesser and a level planer. So the body was glued and clamped and although there is a lot of issues with the wood, a crack here and there and a "kwas" or 2, I like the way it looks.

I still don't have the truss rod or fret board, but I am sure those will come around.

The neck blank is ok'ish but I think it's going to be to weak. I am going to do a third blank from a piece of Mahogany I got from another friend.

I want to do the neck pocket and the other routing before I do the body shape.

One question: About the truss rod installation, how far from the end of the neck (on the body side) does the truss rod get installed?
