themanthatwalks So I really loose myself in the mirror when I play. I have found when I am looking in the mirror that I play up 2 twice as long as normal.... and my wife thinks its weird.. what do you think (old forum) Poll Results: Do you like watching yourself play guitar in the mirror yes: 10 no: 5 TMTW is a freak: 8
deanBailey I practice in front of a mirror and to a click track at all times possible ?. At first I thought it was weird, but I realised that I can see what other people see when they see me play. So I practice, and at the same make sure it looks as orthodox and as good as it sounds. It's fairly arrogant but it does make you practice longer than you normally do ?
Bane Haha yea it does seem vain doesn't it. But it really helps. I started playing infront of the mirror because I had a bad habit of unknowingly bending strings slightly (especially with my index finger) and it's easiest to fix that when you're facing the fretboard (ie mirror) and can actually see the bending and hence work on it. And I still do it. Like dean said, it shows you what other people see and it pulls your focus from the fretboard, which means you'll learn to play without looking at your fretboard faster. I'd say every guitarist should do it. Besides, ever pull a face at yourself in the mirror? If you don't pack out laughing there is something wrong with you! ?
Heath at first glance it sound freakish , but i think i am going to try that this weekend ..... sounds kewl .
Guy-Onraet A lot of top players do it and recommend doing it. Like Bane said, you can see and focus on problem areas, like relaxation and economy of movement that would have otherwise remained hidden.

Werner-Carstens The mirror has been a constant playing companion for me as well. The guitars look great but the player is another matter...
Neps Well I love looking at myself in the mirror.. Apart from being good looking.. :yup: I also love seeing the best guitarists play, so I have to adore myself there too.. But seriously, it helps, but the looks I get does conjuer up a laugh most of the time.. If you've watched John Mayer's latest live DVD.. Thats me, pulling up the shoulder, pulling weird faces and generaly just having a good time.. ALL perfected in the mirror!!
