I know this may seem like an odd question - but I have found many answers on this forum! I am sifting through forums and Googling and whatnot and it's taking forever. Just for an answer to a simple question! Maybe one of you tech whizzes know?
I am writing something - blog piece - about technology in fiction writing - and need to know when in fact cops used to use pagers, beepers? Was it the sixties, the seventies - right up until the nineties? Did they only start using cellphones in the nineties? I know they have always used radios in their cars. That hasn't changed or has it?
Anybody know or where I can look for this info. It's not a serious piece I am writing and it's just something I reference lightly in what the drift of the article is about.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ?

I just googled "History of Police communication" and found a mound of info. Hopes this helps.

SA cops ... car and handheld radios into the 80's some specialised divisions used pagers. Mostly radios across the board as far as I can remember. Radios could also be patched through to terrestrial telecom (Post Office) lines
