This Friday my band was fortunate enough to open for Kathy Raven.
Kathy has performed locally with (amongst others)..Blondie & Pappa Makhene, Louis Mhlanga, Anton Goosen, Dan Patlansky, Jennifer Ferguson, Tim Parr (Ellamental)..in Studio and live, and also supported Crosby Stills and Nash and Shawn Phillips on their SA tours.

By far the biggest name and probably most experienced musician we've shared the stage with. We're mostly pretty new to this and really quite wet behind the ears as far as live performance, and just playing music in general goes, so this was big for us.

But here's the main point of me writing this: Apart from the strength of her brilliant vocal performance and her guitar playing (she did a solo acoustic set), the biggest thing that stood out was just how down to earth and easy-going she was. Even though we've had a fairly good experience with other bands in general so far, it was such a refreshing experience to have a musician of her calibre really listen to our set and have a chat afterwards and pass on some informative info. She even offered us the better timeslot on the evening. She really made it such a good evening. And then there was her performance... :bopping:

Seriously, if you haven't already, go check her out.

absolutely agree... Kathy is a fabulous performer and very experienced , and more than that she is just such a cool person, and a musician /composer who has worked on so many levels from small solo gigs to big concerts.

Yeah, she is really cool. We've had a really good experience with most people we've opened for so far, but this was right up at the top. We were complete unkowns to her but she still gave us a lot of time. And that made the whole gig feel so easy and comfortable.
