Thank you all for all the advice and babying. I did get the wine red LP. Someone was quite catastrophically nasty to it in its past life:
- The tone knobs are all 4 cracked like someone punched them out of frustration
- Someone decided to screw in some of those suitcase-strap button things that just looks terrible
- The strings were bad - really really dull sound
- The pickup selector was the wrong way around
- There is some dropping body damage
And then (not surprisingly) the headstock has been repaired. However, it is an amazingly good job of a repair and that section was refinished a little darker with a nice blend to hide it.
Either way, I loved it, and then got worried about it, but I've restrung it and made some minor adjustments and cleaning and I think it sings beautifully. Here is the thing that put me off mostly and almost made me cry:
But now? All taken care of. It's going to a wizard to take care of the through-to-wood chips tomorrow (hopefully) and then after that for setup. I got replacement strap buttons, replacement knobs and have a pick-guard on order. Oh and the finish? hah, therein lies my happyness:
Thank you again, I hope I will enjoy and bond with the whole LP thing, time will tell I suppose - still a little uncomfortable and unused to it for now ?
