So when will the voting end and the new challenge start?

The plan is that voting will run Monday to Sunday and the next challenge will run from Monday to Monday again.

@ Rene - I have mine done anyway. Should I send you the info now or should I hold off 'til Sunday?
@ CDee - Topics will run for two weeks now (two competitions a month). A week to complete it and a week for voting.
I'm going to try and get sponsorship for strings as prizes for each and every competition. Rules to follow, but the prizes will be limited to acoustic or electric guitar strings (probably one specific brand), and winners will collect them from specific stores (if there isn't a store in your area I'll make a plan and post them to you). Unfortunately this means that only entrants from within the borders of South Africa will be eligible for prizes.

An interesting turn of events...
There goes my Friday morning routine of rushing in early to work so that I can log on and size up the competition...
But on the flip side, a positive change. If you do manage to arrange the prizes it'd be a bonus, and a great incentive for more members to compete. Downside though is that guys like you (Alan) now have a weekend to wave magic wands around and perform miracles! ?
All good though, I now look forward to Mondays at least twice a month now... ?
I never thought I'd ever say that.

Oooh brother I'd travel to Mehico and back right about now to get my paws on a set of Elixir 10's for the strat. Everybody up here's out of stock! ☹ Still got nothing on the Latin thing though, maybe I can get the girlfriend to inspire something great in me over the weekend...hmmmm. If they just made medicine for faster fingers huh? I tried Whiskey already.
Thanks to everyone putting this thing together! I'm having oodles of fun. Prizes would be a bonus but IMHO if it's a drag I don't really see it being worth it. Please don't read that the wrong way, I honestly just mean I love the whole relaxed and fun atmosphere around the whole thing right now. A prize would be cool though, even if it's just plecks! Hehe

Unlikely - will give me more of a chance to actually finish though (I have more unfinished challenge pieces on my HD than finished :sorry?.

Yay i still have time *bounce*

I know it sucks for us mods but I'd like to suggest that we're exempt from winning prizes. What say you?
Also, I was thinking that we should add a rule that you can't win (you can still enter, though) if you won the last competition.
Those 2 rules should level the playing fields a bit. Thoughts from fellow mods and fellow GFSA-ers?
Heath
why don't mods need new strings ........ but i like the idea of maybe only getting strings perhaps so once a month
themanthatwalks
Instead of 1 comps every 2 weeks, cant we still have 1 every week, and then if you win you decide the keyword for the comp in 2 weeks. still give each comp a week and voting a week. but while we vote we prepare for the next deadline?
I think its fair if the mods win. They are not the only ones who vote(except if the cheat.... ?)
Squonk
I dont think the mods must be exempt. They might not try so hard to win then!!! ?
NorioDS
Good point - there's only 3 or 4 of us and so many of you. It's pretty fair if one of us wins. Okay, thanks for feedback fellaz ?

Mods need strings too, but I'll go with the general consensus. Agreed that a win one competition puts you out of the running for the next (although having someone win repeatedly may give more of an element of "the one to beat" type competition). We have some great players on the forum who don't take part. Iif they did, it would be more of a level playing field.
Go ahead, bar the mods - I'm an admin, not a mod ?

Nooo bugger it! Mods CAN win too! I like the idea about not being able to win two times in a row (Prizes) wise though. But let me get back on that one, gotta go twindle on it. See that? "Twindle"...funny word huh?

Mods must be able to win:
- voting is democratic
- mods need to be encouraged to enter
- exemption from winning is also exemption from losing

that is cool, I think one learns more from losing than from winning. But winning is still nice

As the main culprits for being both a mod and a repetitive winner I would quite happily donate any material prizes I should win in the future back to GFSA. I enter these challenges to improve my abilities and those of my fellow GFSA members. Progress and improvement are the real prizes here. Imposing handicaps on mods and winners IMO would dilute this valuable process. What we really really need is more competitors and voters so we all can improve more.
AlanRatcliffe
Good points all.
OK. I think we leave things as they were as far as this goes: anyone can enter, anyone can win. But Norio was right to ask the question.
