Radio GaGa

So you're an up and coming composer/producer/mixer and you feel that you've just made it to the big leagues by landing an internship at one of the large (remaining) record labels.

However, your dreams of a guitar driven mainstream rock revival are dashed when Tank 'No Neck' Thompson, the big exec, hands you the brief in your first assignment for a soon-to-be hit single that you must compose and record for Lady Gaga (but no writing credit for you sono!).

The brief simply reads:

"Thi$ track mu$t be:

4/4;
120bpm;
Make it to #1 on the Billboard chart$ within 4 day$ of relea$e; and
Earn TON$ and TON$ of ca$h money".

The fool that you are, you glance up from your brief and quiver, "But I only play guitar...".

Already halfway out the door, the exec looks at you and sneers, "Well, if you must I suppose. The Beatles got away with that for a while".

        Yeah I just loved it! It went straight into the newsletter ?
          Ummmm...so I'm going through a few idea's and realized that the insidious part of this challenge is that I'd actually have to listento Lady Gaga. :-\

          After 4-5 tracks, I can't find one to use as inspiration - they all sound a bit dubstep-lite to me. Boring drums, processed vocals, predictable synth bass lines and little in the way of (what I think of as)...groove.

          Could anyone please point me in the direction of something of her's with a bit of flavour?
            The topic isn't aimed at a Lady Gaga cover per se...

            The idea is to produce a radio friendly track. Go check out the billboard top 10 at the moment and get inspiration from there.

            Your track could be EDM, pop, hip-hop, or some kinda indie pop vibe like Hozier or Sam Smith. Up to you.
              Interest concept! Life is soooo crazy at the moment... I spend my time between work and preparing for church... playing an hour long jol tonight again 8)

              Really want to put some more time into recording stuff!!!!!!
                All I'm hearing is
                Laaaady Gaga.
                Laaaady Gugu.

                What?! No, wait... ?

                  Aha, thanks for clarifying Doc Phil. A trawl of the billboard top 10 yielded two tunes of suitable inspiration. 8)

                  Not looking to do a cover, but a reference track or two it helps keep me on track. And if I want to be competitive, I'm going to have to up the production/mixing skills...(a lot!). Yourself, Mixerboy & Adrian are kicking out some seriously slick productions.

                    Haven't had a moment to get stuck in to this month's challenge :'( Hopefully I'll pull something out the bag on Sunday!
                      Is it possible to send something in by tomorrow morning?

                          You stumped yourself.

                          I had a good idea but didn't get a chance to work it so I sent some other crap thing I had laying around :sorry:

                            Crap sells, don't stress.
                              Sorry, was super busy today. Wow. Also, like 3 entries. Not quite the turnout was expecting. I'm willing to extend a little longer if there are a good few who can still submit?
                                I recently upgraded my PC at home and now my PCI card no longer has a home so I can't record anything for a while. ☹

                                Super bummed...
                                  I did get a entry in...so here's my 0.02c : If there are a few interested parties for a revised deadline (Friday 9am?) & they commit to an entry...then by all means, extend the deadline. It does prejudice the peeps who did manage to get a entry in - but I believe the challenge should be more about learning & feedback than a few packs of strings.

                                  If there isn't much interest, then lump the three entries into one group - identify the entrants, but keep the voting anonymous so there'll be a bit of banter during the voting process.
